Head unit Replacement

How would i go about replacing the head unit with something aftermarket, with aux and bluetooth, while retaining the rear speakers. I believe they are amplified separately, so it won't just be plug and play. Is it worth the hassle or is a connects 2 the better option.

Yes it would; just buy the (cheap) wiring harness you need (standard or Bose) and then you keep the car-amplifier for the rear while powering the front with the new headunit.

I've done this myself, and I can safely say that it was worth it, the rear speaker amp only needs power, which isn't a lot of hassle in my opinion.

I went this route last July buying a new Sony head unit with aux and bluetooth fitted in by Halfords. Personally, I hated it and removed it the very next day and refitted the standard CD Audi radio and then brought a Connects 2 with bluetooth. So much better but now with bluetooth streaming music from my phone is by far the best option over a aftermarket set up. Its a personal choice and I'm sure others may well like the new aftermarket route?

This one keeps your rear speakers playing:

Thanks for all your replies, very helpful. I have bought a knock off connects2 with bluetooth and with report back if any issues thanks for your help. If it doesn't work this https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Car-Blue...e62:g:7~IAAOSwGltan5Hx:rk:2??1&frcectupt=true as mentioned by audifan looks like the next option.

olerype - am i correct in thinking that the "https://www.dynamicsounds.co.uk/con...-a4-a6-a8-non-bose-active-system-adaptor.html" can be used with any iso aftermarket head unit? thanks

also, what would be the best place to feed an aux cable without taking the dash apart. thanks

kind regards.

Yes you are correct about the adapter; can be used with whatever HU. Note however this is for non-Bose setup, as there is another adapter for A2’s with Bose. It is plug and play.

The Pioneer HU I installed can pair two phones at the same time (very convenient), and has as well USB in front.

The given description by Dynamicsound is slightly confusing as the adapter do not bypass any amplifier. What is does, is that front speakers will be powered by the new HU while the rear speakers remain powered by the Blaupunkt amplifier located below the driver side floor
