Headlamp Help.

Hello all.

First of all I want to say thanks for all your help over the years with my A2, this forum has been very helpful.

I've hit a bit of a brick wall here with my A2 as yesterday it failed it's 1st NCT/MOT ( I'm in Ireland ) in the 20 years I had it.

One of the headlamps is letting some condensation inside, which I was able to sort out with the highbeams and a hairdryer before the test. The other headlamp failed as I made a mistake and stupidity purchased a light for a left hand drive vehicle.

I've had a look on the forum and a look online at some 3rd party sellers but not seeing anything for RHD cars that drive on the left.

Is there anything or anywhere you can suggest I look or do I need to come to terms that RHD headlamps are no longer made for the A2.

Thanks again

You don't say which side you need but I recently got a RH one on a famous auction site. I've just looked and there are many second hand ones available in UK of course.

I had a Smart City Coupe CD a few years back. They were only made left hand drive and mine had been imported from Hamburg. The speedo had been changed but the heahlights were lefties with beam deflectors stuck on them. They were fine for MOT in UK. If it applies in Ireland, the deflector might be the quickest way to get sorted until you get a new headlight.

Hi @goldeneye,

You did not say what was wrong with the headlight you wrongly replaced, if you still have it refurbishment may be a solution.

Quite decent used headlights often crop up in the Marketplace on here, is it visible to you? Usually around the £25 mark picking a headlight up should be no problem, maybe best to put an ad in Wanted.

I hope you'll get this sorted out soon; a bit off topic, but it looks as if you may had your A2 from new? not many here can say that.

I have heard that some leaving some silicon bags in the lamp will help dry out the interior.

That’s what I did.

Removed the unit and put it open on a radiator overnight to evaporate out the moisture already in there. Let it cool down in a nice, dry area so the air inside wasn’t humid or likely to recondense any more water. Stuffed a couple of silica packs carefully down inside the front behind the reflector and put some sealant lube (rubber grease stuff - non petroleum) on the seal before buttoning it up tight.

No reoccurrence since. Not even after I had it open to change the bulb while snowing.
