Headlight bulb holder

I have a 2003 A2 1.4 petrol. We have just removed the drivers side headlight bulb and bought a new one but the rubber surround that holds the bulb in place has corroded and broken off. Is it possible to replace this piece or does it mean a whole new headlight unit? Thank you. My first ever post here!

Is it rubber or plastic?

I believe it’s a H7 bulb and if that’s the case then this should be the item you need

Is it the rubber seal ? If so try clackers or a2steve who break cars and will have parts .

Bit confused re the "rubber surround that holds the bulb in place has corroded and broken off". Well if rubber will not corrode, but there is no rubber there. Here are some pictures..

This is the rear plastic cover that you remove to access the bulbs.

This is the headlight bulb in position with its wiring plug and retaining spring.

The headlight bulb in position with its spring but not electrically connected.

And with the bulb removed it sits on the grey plastic recess. This is an integral part of the headlight unit so if damaged you will need to replace the whole headlight unit.

Let us know which part you are talking about.

Yes, the last picture with the grey plastic. On mine it looked like there was also black rubber round the rim of this part. But either way, it looks like a new headlight then?

After talking to my dad I've realised it's the spring clip that is missing!

In that case you should be able to pick up just the spring clip from a local breakers as quite a universal clip is used. Once unhooked the legs are pushed together and the clip comes off very easily.
