Well it had to happen one day. My drivers side dipped beam bulb went today so I called VW assist when I got home as I know lots of A2 drivers have had problems replacing the bulbs. I called them at 17.30hrs bulb replaced by 18.45hrs and it only cost me the price of the bulb now thats what I call service. gave the chap £10 well worth it would ahve had to wait until monday and get charged stealer prices.

fair enough, I'd say very good service from VW Assist.

However It really is an easy job to replace the bulbs. Just make sure you place the bonnet painted side down on a well cushioned clean surface. Its just possible to change at least on of the bulbs with the head light in situ but its a lot easier to remove the head light (only 2 screws)
Took me less than 30 mins to replace all bulbs (diadem indicators, Zenon upgraded main, dip and sidelight) in both units, including the time it took to replace one and then compare the difference and marvel at the weird blue tinge to the light :)

Don't be scared to take off the bonnet. Audi may not want you to but its dead easy.

I have taken off the bonnet many times and I find that very easy. The reason for calling out the VW assist guy was the fact I needed to go out that evening and of course all the motor shops were closed so no chance of getting a bulb plus read many posts on here saying how much Audi charge for doing the job and that it was not that easy to do (in the dark even harder) may attempt it next time.

Hi
Could you please describe how to change the headlight bulb on the left side. There seems to be a pipe in the way when I try to remove the back of the headlight.

Dip beam bulb replacement

Hi, this is one of my 1st posts on A2OC. I have just replaced the n/s dip bulb by removing the headlight assembly. But now the n/s lights are shining down and the o/s are shining towards the moon. Can anyone help ?

It sounds like one of two problems:

1. You've not got the bulb seated correctly.
2. You've re-fitted the headlamp shell incorrectly.

If it's the former, you'll have to whip the light out and re-fit the bulb. Make sure that the little bit that juts out on the bulb fits into the notch on the housing.

If it's the latter, take out the headlamp and re-fit it, making sure that the little round projections (2 per headlamp) on the outer part fit into the guides inside the wings.

There is no need to re-code anything. Also, check that the headlamp adjuster motor (the little black box at the bottom when you take off the back cover) is correctly positioned. It should be at a slight angle, not parallel with the bottom of the headlamp shell.

Cheers,

Mike
