The headlight on warning buzzer doesn't seem to work on my car,(no sure if it was fitted with one), what is the likely culprit?would this be an alternative and has anyone? 20210108_140252.jpg

Tom I notice project car has no DIS display either??
Evening ,

No Project 250 does not have full DIS. I was showing you what is displayed on an A2 with no/half DIS Display.

After reading through this thread I was confused at times. Providing that you are using the factory standard headlight switch, it does seem that all things are normal and correctly working less for the audible tone speaker itself.

I’m sure Tom @timmus can advise if this item is prone to failure or it might have possibly been disconnected for some reason, not sure how or why it would actually be disconnected but it’s something to investigate.

You’re in the right place though. Everyone contributing to this thread have got you this far, a full diagnosis is surely imminent.

Hope you get there quickly as possible.

Kind regards,

Tom

I’ve got a A4 Cabrio B6 and had the same problem with no warning tone for lights left on, with the car clearly detecting “door open” correctly. It turned out the mini-speaker mounted at the back of the instrument cluster had failed open circuit. I replaced it with a similar size and impedance part and that fixed it. DIS was unaffected. I have to say I find the tone on my A2s annoyingly loud and piercing, often when the low fuel or screenwash warning comes on it will make me and any passengers jump.

Yep, even then not sure if you can take it apart to get to the part or if the part is available. Add in the fact that the gauges will all have to be calibrated when the needles are refitted it is not a straight forward job for someone who does not know what they are doing. Really best left to experts such as Tom @timmus

Bit more trouble than it is worth to be honest. It may be cheaper getting a replacement instrument panel of the same type as yours then getting the mileage and immobiliser coded to your car.

John,

Can you remind me what engine you have. I have a spare 1.4 Petrol BBY cluster here. If your A2 is the same then I am happy to take my spare cluster apart to see where the buzzer/speaker is to understand if it can be swapped without removing dials/needles.

Hopefully Tom @timmus will be along shortly to advise you in the best solution.

Here is a how to which explains how to open the instrument cluster, it will give you an idea of the work involved. NOTE: What ever you do though, do not remove the needles/pointers as the cluster will require calibration afterwards as Graham mentioned earlier.

Only use the guide to open the cluster and not to change dials etcetera. If reading the linked how to seems to be beyond what you will be comfortable with then I strongly suggest you contact @timmus. We all know he loves a cluster challenge.

Kind regards,

Tom

Hi Tom thanks for your reply and help, mine is a 1.4 petrol, 51 plate, wouldn't it be easier if a mileage correction is done on your and I have that off you instead(don't mind paying for it)and sort of swapping them over,or is it more complicated than that lol?could even possibly bring car to you at some point etc

Hi John,

Doing such things like swapping the Instrument Cluster is something I’ve not done before. I have VCDS along with the ability to do the mileage correction but don’t know how to correctly code a cluster into another car.

Opening up my spare cluster is something I’m more than happy to do to see if I can help out but locating the buzzer/speaker. Unless someone was willing to let me know how to correctly code a replacement cluster into an A2 I think your only option is seek a visit to/from Tom @timmus when he is next out and about. Post vaccine of course.

I see you’re not too far away from and I’m really happy to help out fellow members, what I’d not like to do is have you here as my first cluster swap and leave you stranded if I mess something up. I’m sure I wouldn’t but I would need to know how to do it first. Happy to receive a PM from someone to explain how to do the swap.

Hope that all makes sense sir.

Kind regards,

Tom

Afternoon all,

Looking to try to help John out here. I found this clip on YouTube which seems a pretty good guide. I’ve not done this before and don’t want to ruin anything and leave him stranded in my drive when we’re allowed to mingle again. So can someone confirm that the A2 has an immobiliser 3 type cluster as per the YouTube clip.

More than happy for someone else to jump in and assist here as I’ve not don’t this before.

Kind regards,

Tom

Hello @Scudney,

First of all, thanks to everyone for the recommendations.

I can definitely fix the instrument cluster, and can probably do so by post.

@Scudney, could you let me know the 17-digit vehicle identification number at the base of your windscreen, please?

Kind regards,

Tom

Morning Tom,

Thank you for jumping in sir. You know I’m happy to give most things a go but some tasks are best left to the experts.

I’m sure John will now have his annoying buzzer back in no time.

@Scudney, this really is the best course of action for you.

Kind regards,

Another Tom
