Headlight Restoration.

That is what I have been using for headlights. Do not sand them as it takes ages and requires more materials. Just use a waffle pad and drill / mop but do cover up as much as possible. I put a rubber mat in the gap between the headlight and bumper then tape an old blanket over the engine and wings and tape the gaps. I remove the rubber seals from the top and sides of the headlights before I start and refit afterwards.

Last time I did mine I wanted to seal themwith 2K clear lacquer. I've regret it ever since. Probably has to do with my spraying skills?.
Today I took the time to get rid off the 2K and polish them the right way. Needless to say that it took some serious effort.
I had to start from grit240, through 600, 800, 1000, 1500, 2000, 2500 and ended with 3000, before a heavy cut and fine cut. Got the lenses sealed with Meguires UV protection. Thrilling from beginning to the end.
I hope this will be a warning for those considering the 2K.

Wow, they look fantastic. Could you link the sealant you used please?

Interesting thread and very topical - Audrey’s passenger side headlamp clear plastic cover is like brand new - the replacement driver’s side is good but could be better and has already been sanded, so I’ll need to cut back further to achieve the finish above and then protect both. I’ve just bought a tin of that Mothers polish from HERE and stocked up on other car cleaning supplies while I was there to get free delivery.

Looking at the detailing world forum, there are a number of posts advocating coating the headlamps with this ceramic coating - which should then be good for two years before needing reapplying, which to me sounds better than needing to remember to reapply every 2-3 months with the meguiars or turtle wax sprays.

Sharing in case of interest - good headlamps are now hard to find and so we should be preserving them as much as possible.
