can any one advise just added a few names but open to all

Good evening all

My FSI(1.6) while i was driving home suddenly started blowing out really hot air in the cabinet. I was sitting in traffic so turned it as low as possible switched on the Air con but it made no different. the temperature gauge sat steady and did not move. on arriving home i popped the hood looked around but didn't see any issues of leaks etc. expansion bottle was fine fan didn't cut . i switched it off will check in the morning
car drove fine just hotter than July on the inside

any suggestions of what it could be welcomed

So what was selected on the climate when it went crazy? Were you using climate in manual i.e. off?

Strange but I had a similar problem recently and it was a loose connector, I think it was the 2nd or 3rd from the right looking at the a/c control panel from the rear.

Might not be your problem but fixed mine

The first thing it says in the manual is to check for contact corrosion, loose connections and power or earth issues.

I was in Econ mode with Auto off . it just occurred out the blue . no smell no dash likes temperature stable.... wow

The A2 is a bit more prone to contact corrosion in any electrical plug that many other cars due to the aluminium bodywork. The worst offenders are any plug / sensor in the engine bay. This can be made worse living on the coast and / or the undertray not being fitted. Remember there are two plugs right out infront of the radiators, the outside temp sensor and the aircon sensor. Personally I never run in ECON mode. Try it in AUTO with say 21 temp selected.

Thanks for that. I'll check a few things in the morning connectors etc. . thanks for all your ideas and help

Is it hard to remove the heater panel in the car to check connections

Can be if it has not been out before, but it only held in with 4 little clips. Remove the stereo first to gain more access.

Is this not a description of the common air-mixing control flap being sticky? My BHC does it every few months - change the climate control heat setting by a degree or so for practical reasons and it suddenly goes into maximum sauna mode that can only be overcome by either switching the climate off altogether to get some respite, or else stopping the car and restarting it (which seems to get the climate to reset all of the motorised flaps to a starting position)... - usual response here is to suggest cycling the vents from low to high and back again a few times (although I have never succeeded in making this work while on the road), or else that difficult-sounding job accessing the flap in question from the footwell.

When you start the car first thing, turn the ignition key, let the electronics go through their sequence including opening flaps, then start the engine and put on the ac on auto strait away. Works on my 1.4 every time.

A scan would certainly tell you if it is the temperature flap, and might well give you a clue if it's not.
Mac.

ding ding ding, we have a winner! Scan it! Everything else is guessing. It will bring up loose connectors or flaps.

My money's on a stuck temperature or defroster flap.
So dear all.... we have a winner. the following morning i arise took the hood off checked for leakes etc. turned the key in 2 postion heard th flaps etc do its thing switched off the heating . fired her up. and my baby is back to normal. a 5 minute warm up turn back on the digital heating and all is well. drove 30 miles since and all is normal. Thank all for your ideas and suggestions. my A2 lives for an other adventure. up and and away ..?‍♀️?‍♀️?‍♀️?‍♀️?
