Hello to the A2OC ?,

I have joined the club on behalf of my father (who is the owner of the listed A2). He unfortunately does not have any access to email or the internet so has asked me to find someone local to him, in the West Oxfordshire region, to help him with ongoing servicing and maintainance of the vehicle. He has been increasingly severely disappointed with his local Audi garage/service centre.
I would welcome anyone to contact me who is able to help him, and I will put him in contact with you.

Kind regards,

Graham Smith.

Welcome aboard Graham, glad you found us from Facebook, I was messaging with you on our club page.

I was thinking of @Andrew also, and maybe @Erlingtheyounger might be able to offer some help and advice since he's around the Burford/Chipping Norton area by day.

Any recommendations for garages in the area who can be trusted with an A2 would be useful, but I understand the task currently at hand is just to fit a new windscreen wiper (hopefully the correct hook type one has been delivered) - not really worth bothering a garage with.

@Andrew Is this your part of the country?
Yes, I was just about to reply.

Good Evening & Welcome,

I live in Eynsham, a few other members in the Cotswold area, where is your father? Your request for A2 service recommendations near Oxford has been asked several times in recent years and alas never any suggestions, in fact very few A2 specialists even nationally and anything local I would know about.

I use a very experienced local mechanic who I would have no reservations suggesting, but I do stress he is not an A2 specialist, but with a 1.4 petrol that is not critical unless any gremlins are not engine related. In response to a similar request I wrote a kind of review a few years ago here.

If your father has specific issues post them here, every answer under the sun is usually here somewhere, finding them is another matter. Just ask questions, however minor, somebody will normally come to the rescue.

My mechanic knows about the bonnet!!!

Andy

Edit. Tell your dad there are dozens and dozens of us geriatrics on here!!!

Just noticed Ian's (Proghound) comment about the wiper. Has you dad checked out the earthing problem, a common occurrence at the age of our cars now? The factory supplied wiper motor has a an internal earth that at this age fails due to corrosion resulting in the wiper running slow or dying. The work around is simply to fit a supplementary earth, there may be no need for a replacement motor.

It appears that the task in hand is the fitting of a new wiper blade rather than there being any issue with the motor.

There is an extremely good and knowledgable outfit in West Hounslow who charge very reassonably and are expert on all matters A2.
B&F Autos, Gary is the man. Something like fitting a wiper and checking for other "horrors" could probably done while you wait. For longer jobs they do have a loan car.

I did find a nice and capable chap based in Culham. Adam Lucket, Volkstechnik.

Needless to say, Culham is practically next door to Eynsham.

West Hounslow is a reasonable distance up the M4.

Hi,
Thank you for your conversations and replies to my questions. They’ve all been really helpful. Sorry for not replying sooner - I’ve been working a series of very late shifts, and with Christmas time in the mix I’ve been completely out of the loop. As for the windscreen wiper, he is hoping there might be someone local to him to help him fit it. He is very nervous about getting it wrong and then not being able to put the old one back if necessary. He lives near Woodstock.

Hi Simon,

Thank you for this reply. Sorry for not replying sooner - I’ve been working a series of very late shifts, and with Christmas time in the mix I’ve been completely out of the loop. These suggestions are very much appreciated. Particularly the one in Culham. Would you mind passing on a phone number for you and for Adam Lucket, so that I can give them to my father so he can make direct contact with you both? Unfortunately Hounslow is too far for him to travel these days.

Hi Andy,

Thank you. Sorry for not replying sooner - I’ve been working a series of very late shifts, and with Christmas time in the mix I’ve been completely out of the loop. It is just the replacement wiper blade that he needs help with. As far a as I know, the wiper motor is fine.

Hi Andy,

That sounds very promising, thank you. My father would very much like to be able to speak with you - by phone initially. Would you be happy to let me have your (preferably land line) phone number to pass on to him? He lives near Woodstock, so your location sounds perfect.
Graham.

I’m in Burford more or less every day and always happy to help. I have full VCDS to scan the car and am happy to assist with basic maintenance.

Hi Jeff,

Yes, you are correct. Dad is very hesitant about doing anything like this himself - he is concerned that if he can’t get the new one to fit, then he might not be able to put the old one back either…
Once the wiper is replaced, he would then also like to make contact with a local (he lives near Woodstock) technician/mechanic to provide ongoing servicing/maintenance/MOT’s etc.
Graham.

If your dad's wiper is the later Aero design then show him this video it may help.

Hi Andy,
Thank you for the video. However unfortunately dad does not have any access to email or the internet - only a landline telephone and ordinary post!
