Hi Paul,

Thanks for messaging me.

Ill take you up on that offer, ill be in touch once I get the old one off, probably going to need a little puller as it ain't budging, ill look and see if the plastic cover is there among all the bits n pieces scattered around the car.

Back to work tomorrow for a big run of days and nights so ill get to it once I get a break again.

Cheers

Stuart

To get the wiper arm off, turn the ignition off when it's at the far end of its travel on the windscreen. Then you can not only get at both nuts but it gives you the leverage to wiggle the arms off the splines. A bit of penetrating oil won't hurt either.

undo the retaining nuts by no more than 2 turns, then rock and pull hard the aluminium cast section of the arm, it soon will break free and the nut stops it coming off all together and hitting you in the face :)

Shocking lol

A replacement steering rack from ebay, only 25 pound.

On the original one the pipes were rusted right threw so had lost all the fluid. I am contemplating wrapping these ones with denso tape.

Hopefully the replacement is good, looking at it it appears in good condition and the track rod ends are good also.

I did consider trying to just replace these hydraulic lines but i think i am better changing the whole rack and also one of the nuts came out completely stripped.

Good luck with this.

There are usually members on here who have bits and bobs available if you put a request up in ‘wanted’. eBay prices can often be very high.

It’s amazing how the pieces build up over time.

Ps. That rust makes me feel better about my 30 year old vw camper. It’s pristine compared to those springs. Some rust converter might be in order!

Yes the rust is horrendous id imagine the 3 year period off the car not moving accelerated the rusting process plus the Shetland Environment and proximity to the sea has'nt helped

Well a bit of progress offside hub removed and offside drive shaft taken off.

Going to try and remove the cv joint from the hub next.

Good luck a good quality pusher is needed without the rust that you have so luck will indeed be required

Its just a typical Shetland car, never further than 3 miles from the sea here so the cars suffer a fair bit of corrosion, I have a 09 Yaris that is a rust bucket underneath to the stage that it'll need a large welding job for the next mot, fuel tank out etc and a large section cut out, probably not worth the hassle to be honest.
Welcome, I suppose an A2 makes a good choice having a fair amount of aluminium. The steel bits however look like they need some serious work/replacements. I applaud you wanting to take on the project.

What’s the delivery/postal service like up there? What’s the mileage on it?

Postal and delivery service is quite good always a couple of days behind mainland though and in times off poor weather can be delayed a good bit longer, and they usually try and charge you more if they can.

I think its around 140k if i remember right.

Thanks for the support.

Rust takes no prisoners ?

Thanks John

Yes this forum is awesome ??

Regarding the parts department which menu is that on

Hi LK79, you can upgrade your membership for £2 to gain access to market place. And you can ask on the general thread if anyone has the parts you require. Try not going to Audi if you can help it I have just brought 2 rear Hub Nuts and 2 Front Hub Nuts at the outrageous cost of £48.89. So ask on here first (I wish I did).

Hi @LK79 if you want genuine parts then get a quote from Crewe Audi. They are on this forum and often have special offers. Their prices are usually inclusive of VAT and carriage, so no nasty surprises!
