Hello!

Hi. I joined the club when we bought the car in spring 2018. Technically the car is the wife's but as I recommended it and we both drive it, I do all the related technical stuff. Not that I'm a mechanic although I've owned enough cars over the years to be able to do some elementary diagnosis and work. The club has already provided me with useful advice on a number of topics (tyres, door card, starter motor, warning lights), for which thanks to those members.

On the whole I'm very pleased with the car. It's a fairly basic 2002 1.4 SE model with a/c, 4 seats, no opensky, with just under 70k miles. Perfect our needs although I also have a Volvo XC90 for holidays, bigger loads and general practicality too. But I prefer to drive the A2 frankly, especially around town.

We're in Berkshire (Reading). Would anyone be able to recommend a specialist or at least knowledgeable garage or mechanic down this way? Alternatively or additionally, anyone local with a diagnostic system? (I'm still in the process of getting to the bottom of the EMS light).

Anyway, cheers!

Would Fontain Motors in Iver be a little too far?

I bought mine from a guy in Reading in April, and it had just been serviced by someone local and VAG-oriented. I'm away from the paperwork until Tuesday but I'll look it up for you then.

We also have a XC90 (aka the tank), for same purposes as you list. We just aquired an A2 as a second car, hoping it will cut our diesel costs in half as we will use it around town instead of the XC90. Following this thread as not a million miles from you (bucks) so also interested in servicing suggestions.

@Steve Langridge, the place that the previous owner of my car used was VAG Techniks Ltd in Manor Farm, Peppard Common RG9 5LA, 01491 628386.

Ha ha yep I sometimes also call the Volvo "the tank" especially when its turning circle becomes an annoyance in a tight car park!
