Help needed with 2000 Audi A2

Hi to all

I am new here so plz bear with me.

My parents have just recently bought an x reg 1400 audi a2 and need a few questions answering by you guys... and gals!!

1) The guy they bought had 'supposedly' had it serviced but 'service' comes up on the display. does this mean that he is trying to pull the wool over them? or do some service garages not have the equipment to reset the service info on the vehicle?

If it just needs resetting is there a way of doing this ourselves? as on our cars prior to the Audi we have done services ourselves and had a reset procedure.

2) The heater seems to be blowing hot all the time even with the temp dial down, is this a common prob and is it relatively easy to fix??

3) The bite point on the clutch is nearly righ at the top of the pedals travel and i guess it means the clutch has nearly had it, how much would it cost to have the clutch replaced??

4) There is a sound coming from under the vehicle - like something flapping, what is this most likely to be?

Opologies for bombarding you all with 1000 questions

kind regards, Rich

Hi Rich, welcome to the A2oc
As ersters says, there is a procedure in the owners manual to reset the display. It's listed under 'Service Indicator' on page 83 in my 2001 book.

Does the car have climate control - with a digital temp display and touch controls to raise or lower the temp setting or is it the manual type. If its climate control, there are several sensors and servo motors which control the temperature and adjust the outlet flaps and one of these could be faulty. A diagnostic scan may simplify the troubleshooting. Not sure which area of the country you are from but several members have the kit to do this and may be able to help.
If you have the manual heating system - with large circular control knobs - then the linkage to the back of the knob may have become disconnected.

One check for clutch wear - with the car on level ground, apply the handbrake hard. With the car in first gear gently release the clutch and rev the engine a little. If the engine stalls this indicates the clutch still has some life left in it. Make sure there is nothing in the way should the car lurch forward

The flapping noise may be a loose engine undertray - the large plastic moulding which covers the bottom of the engine bay.

Cheers Spike

As Spike said, the flapping will more than likey be the undertray. fixings are a 1/4 turn bolt type affair, readily available for your dealer, (try a a vw dealer might be cheaper)
