help!!!! please

hey guys had to join ur group i really could do with some advice , my engine light just came on. took it to independent garare , diagnosed. came up to missfire from coil number two, got it replaced and reset the cel paid for the works which only lasted a day to the cel came back on!!! took it back the changed the spark just on that coil no 2 and re set the cel lasted 10 mins before it came back on ,(cel), now th e garage is scratching their head because every time it has been diagnosed it comes back to misfire coil pack no 2!!!! i just havent got a clue whats happening, n e ideas???:confused:
 
A little more help may be need for someone like Skipton to cast his eye over your problem, so whats the engine size 1.4 or 1.6 and i take it that it is an A2 thats why your on here (just checking)

As Phil says, not a lot to go on really.

A couple of things though - firstly, the diagnosis of coil 2 being constant probably points to an error in this direction, so if the coil itself isn't bad, the wiring to it may well be.

Secondly, if all that the independant has done is to change a coil pack and they've had it a full day, you've been duped as changing a coil pack takes literally 10 minutes.

I think he means that after changing the coilpack the CEL light stayed off for just one day before coming back on again, not that the garage took a day to change the pack?

I've known of replacement coilpacks to be faulty straight from the box - they seem to be a very weak component in every model of Audi. I would suggest swapping a known-good coil pack from cylinder 1 into cylinder 2 and seeing if the fault moves, or stays on cylinder 2.
 
hey ,, yeah sorry i forgot to say that its a 1.6 fsi. im starting to think to take it to a main dealer garage but i dnt really want them to give me the same story... ive been bk to this garage 3 time n all with test drives after the work but only when im happily driving home the cel light comes on.. ive just recently had a catalytic put in so i dn't knw if that may have something to do with it??? {3 weeeks b4 problem accured} . what u think???? i tell u the symptoms i feel. bouncing revs when at idle not dramatic but just every 10 15 seconds.. torque is really weak from 1000 revs to just b4 3000 revs then when it gets there it seems to have like a power band cus it picks up from then onwards. and may b its me but the car seems to sound like a diesel when i first start it in the mornings only last a second o so. thanks guys for ur time......
 
Hi nickbreezer click on the forums part at the top of the page, scroll down to Diagnostics then click on VAG.COM and look on there for someone near to you that has got one of these and see if they can help you out before you go to your dealer, if you can get to skipton he's your man, as stated on here what he doesn't know about the A2 isn't worth knowing

cel light still on!!!

just came bk from independant garage coil pack 2 still miss firing i mensioned the wiring but they just gave me a look as to say ; im nt an electrician. they made few phone calls to their electrician friends and they said that the a2 n a4 have damp ecu problems as to say to me give me more money... neva mate i dnt knw if to take it to a dealer cus i recently spoke to them n told them what had been done but they r ntot interested from hearing me all they say is they would have to start from scratch but to me . it means paying for a service which i already have paid for and diagnose information i already know. i said to them what would happen if i did book it in and they do the work needed according to the fault reading from the ecu give the car back to me then i drive off for a few miles or may b a day b 4 the cel comes back on they said they would replace the coil providing its the same no 2 coil BUT charge me again for labour the under go a further investigation kindly paid from my pocket!!!!! i really like my car but at the moment i dnt know what would be my next step. i put out a thread asking if n e body has a wag .com on the diagnosis topic bt no luck :confused::confused::confused::confused:
 
A2s don't suffer from damp ECU problems at all, unless you have a hole in your floor!

Sounds like these guys are just trying to empty your wallet and if you have the tools, what I'd do first is to swap the coil packs from 1 to 2 and see if the problem follows (i.e. if you put the coil from 2 onto 1, see if 1 starts mis firing - surprised the garage hasn#t done this already).

Exactly what I said too - swap the coil packs from a known good cylinder and see what happens first.

I get the impression your independent chap doens't know what he's doing and is trying to extract money from you.

Try and get someone who has VAGCOM and knolwedge of Audis to come over and help you before you go anywhere near a main dealer and their £100 an hour service charges.
 
thanks guys but ive got 1 problem when i change the coils from 1 and 2 around i havent got the diagnosis to tell me if its miss firring from the same coil or is the a differnt way to detect it i was looking at one of the after market diagnosis systems on ebay to detect n reset codes but i don t knw if its worth getting one or if thinking to get such device getting the wag.com instead but dnt knw what sort of prices il b looking????
 
oh yeah i spoke to one of my friends which seems to think it might b the wire harness or wires but i dnt even knw what the harness is????? or to check it?
 
I stick to my first suggestion, if you can't get to skipton(Mike) then go to top of page click on map and look on there for VAG.COM they are highlighted in red they will sort you out and they know the A2 and will not rip you off

thanks guys for all the suggestions and tips relly appreciete it and sorry for the late replys i jus got back from barcelona bt n e ways heres how i came about doing it well my uncle the old school mechanic i told him every thing tat had been happening so he just run a few checks him self he tested the coils by taking them out n swapping them and to c if the engine would run the same without a few coils , i think that was 2 do wid the cylenders testing the connectors and gave them a clean but what he found was that coil pack 3 n 4 had loose spark plugs so he tightened them up plus he said that it was ovious to c that coil pack 1 and 2 had been replaced b 4 cus they dint match 3 n 4 as in they looked newer but he said that they wernt pushed in as much as they should have been sumthing to do wid suction?? but after all that the light was still on n he suggested to go to the dealer cus all of the electronic side of it was out of his league but a few hours later the light just switched of!!!!! i dnt knw what happened there but what eva he did helped n sorted it and yes the light is working cus evry body told me to check it if it came on whilst im starting the car and it works!!!! thanks guys
