Updates with Hue have been a bit slow of late as I've been ill for the last few months but today he had his MOT (I've almost owned him a year now) he passed with flying colors requiring only a number plate bulb. Which of course unearthed the famous rusted beyond use screws so new lenses and stainless screws have just hit my order list for the near future!
I also had a package from @Rickmeister with my parts from Audi Tradition.
A HUUUGE thanks to Rick for everything, an absolute pleasure to deal with
These will form part of the rear end refresh I'm going to do, there is a scratch near the A2 badge currently so I'm going to remove the current badges have the tail gate touched up/painted and refit. Also, where the spoiler seal has blown there is staining behind the rear glass, I did look into a new rear glass/spoiler but the cost is a little more than I can afford at the minute, perhaps next year. For now I'll remove the glass and re seal it once cleaned out. Also if possible I want to split off the lower rear tailgate panel to give everything a really thorough clean/detail. @A2Steve I think you may have removed a tailgate glass before, any tips for removal/refitting and what to secure it with?
At the end of the month my original sport wheels are going to be refurbished, I was so smitten with @Special edition wheels at Stamford Hall I can't wait to get mine done! Once I have them back I'll be ceramic coating them and most likely selling the Pepperpots now the car wont be used in winter. I'll likely get them refurbished first so they're nice and mint for someone.
That just leaves me with a small mountain of parts in the house to have fitted... ?
I did my number plate light replacement last week & took the opportunity to clean 19 years of grime found underneath , took this 58/42%Updates with Hue have been a bit slow of late as I've been ill for the last few months but today he had his MOT (I've almost owned him a year now) he passed with flying colors requiring only a number plate bulb. Best advice I think is watch YouTube video first & remove the interior panel to gain access to wiring for lights & lock , I broke 2 steel clip locators on mine , clips have surface rust preventing smooth removal. Thanks Keith, what a difference! Was the lower panel easy to remove?
Cheechy, did I get the order wrong... should I order again? Thanks to rick from me also. Tried to get the a2 badge also but a combination of me not knowing the part number and also a misunderstanding of me asking for the 1.4tdi badge plus "the a2 badge" which I think rick thought I meant as the TDI badge!
@Muska for future ref what's the part number of the a2 insignia badge itself?
Cheers
Muska - there is a short cut if you have a Dremel or similar and can get a a good enough slot in the rusted screw(s) to get them out. Does not matter if you smash the no plate lens as you have to replace it anyway. (In fact it will make it easier to get the rusted screws out if you prise the old clear lens away carefully).
If you can do that you can just replace the number plate light clear lens with some decent screws (having changed the duff bulb first of course!)
It saves ripping the tailgate apart to replace the whole light unit.
You still have to buy a full unit (about £14 through ECP I think) - but you just use the clear lens / new screws.
