hello, first post here. thanks all for some great info. So..
I just bought an a2 2002 1.4 75 with 48000miles on the clock. Lovely clean car though i guess i paid a few hundred over the odds for it (£4500). anyway having read through here i now realise i should probably get the cam belt replaced. Blast! I thought it was 60000 miles but didnt realise the age limit. a real pain as I'm student and totally blew the bank buying the car. cut to the chase.

Are there any irish readers on here that can recommend a garage to do the work? I'm in belfast but travel around the country a lot.

Just thought I'd ask before ringing all over the country.

thanks,
nick

Hi Nick,

Try Kerbside Motors near the bottom of the Lisburn Road.

John.

Hi Nick,

Was that the nice black one up in Ballymena that's now vanished off the usedcarsni site? If so, you got a nice one there. :)

Good luck with the cambelt - let us know how you get on.

Cheers, Jon

Hi John,
thanks for that. I'll give them a call tomorrow.

Jon, Nope. I actually had committed to buying this one in Wales before that one in ballymena came up. killer but happy with what I got. its a basic model but very clean and fsah. fun driving up from rosslare in the snow off the 7am ferry too! Just hope i can scrounge up the cash for the cambelt.

Anyone any ideas how much i can expect to pay?

cheers
Nick

I got my wife's 1.6 FSI Sport done in Agnew's last March and it cost in the region of £600 including labour. Hopefully you'll get it for £200 or so less at an independent.

The actual cambelt itself costs around £80, it's the labour that's the killer. You should also get the water pump done when you're at it. It will most likely be suggested as it's normal when getting the cambelt done.

Holy moley, Quotes ranged from
€850, audi dealers around Dublin, to
£476 agnew audi dealer in belfast
£270 for kerbside motors on Lisburn road
£270and McEvoy Motors in Carryduff.

All quotes using Audi parts and include water pump.
Booked for McEvoy in Carryduff as he is strongly recommended by folks on the audi tt and vwaudi forums.
Very glad i rang around :)

I'm not surprised by the Dublin price. Now you know why I go north to get our cars serviced. Not only are the prices massively inflated down south, but the service is terrible.
