I have just got a A2 2001 se 1400. I got it from a friend who has had it sitting idle for 8 months so got it a new battery and it started second turn, bless it but after freeing the locked wheels and driving about 1 mile the alarm started and stayed flashing for the next 5 minutes till I got home. Next day I took new battery and charged it full , put it in car , started first time, but boot sign was flashing, took it up road to give it a longer run and alarm started. I have sent off for manual and a tester. So she sits in my car part with battery disconnected until I find out more. I want to disconnect alarm as my flat is not near car park and wouldn't hear it anyway lol. Hope someone can advise a little. Thanks in advance x

Hi wendy , Welcome to the A2oc , youl be advised by most to have a scan, as the dash alarm flags up while driving if theres a fault detected , could be anything from a low fluid level to an 02 sensor and covers everything even the abs and traction control and without a scan its anybodys guess advisable to check the basics like brake fluid level, water resiviour top up as these can flag up the alarm.. if the alarm you mention is the security alarm , im unsure why this would go off while driving but a common fault is the front bonnet hatch not closing corectly and pressing the contact in fully, this can be adjusted while open so it closes slightly tighter but your in the same situation again with out a full scan it could be anything. you may find theres a member close to you who can do a full scan for you and diagnose the fault for you.

I'm no expert, but if the boot light is flashing, perhaps there is some issue with the contacts on the boot switch. An intermittent circuit here may well trigger the alarm. I had a similar problem when the false floor strap got trapped in the boot catch mechanism.

Just a thought.
