Hi All,

I've been looking at A2s on and off for a few years but the impending arrival of a second child means the last of the impractical cars is having to go. I've been looking for something fairly small, economical and cheap to run and once again found myself coming back to the A2. Whenever I've looked previously I've never been able to find the spec I wanted so this time I just tried to find a straight car with a reasonable spec. In the end, I went for this one:

http://www.solomotors.co.uk/used-cars/audi-a2-1-4-tdi-sport-5dr-burnley-201310129250225

Leather would have been nice but otherwise it seems to fit the bill so I'm picking it up tomorrow. As far as I'm aware it's standard 1.4TDI Sport spec, with the addition of a bench seat and parking sensors, but let me know if you spot anything else.

The tracking seemed slightly out and the inner edge of the n/s/f tyre was worn to the limit and the glovebox catch was broken but these have apparently been sorted now. Otherwise it seemed in excellent condition.

Hello, and welcome to the club!

It looks like you've bought a very nice A2.

Without interior photos, it's impossible to make any comment about its spec', really. You're right that it's got rear parking sensors, but beyond that it's impossible to say without a few more detailed photos.

Having wanted one for so many years, I hope you enjoy it. This club should hopefully enhance your ownership, during the good times and the times when things go wrong...

Cheers,

Tom

Welcome, looks a nice example from the outside!
As Tom says, take some interior snaps and upload them here and we can all have a good oggle over what you've got!
I downsized to the A2 when our 2nd child arrived and it's been the most fantastic car for our family. Economical, nippy, tardis-like and the kids like it too!
If you're keen on leather seats they can always be retrofitted - sets of leather seats do come up on the forum for sale every now and then.

Thanks for the welcome, no doubt there will be a few small jobs to do so hopefully I'll find the answers on here. As for the lack of interior photos, the glovebox was being fixed and was in pieces, so I don't think they wanted to post photos of the inside!

Leather Sport seats with a rear bench!? I have never seen such a thing for sale on the forum. Rare as rocking horse poo, I'm afraid.
If you're willing to sacrifice the Sport seats and just have standard leather seats, you'll have much more luck.

Good point. Although there's no difference in the rear seats between either trim spec is there?
Sorry for the thread swerve to the OP.

Watch out for the "tracking" excuse.

No car would wear so unevenly unless something is wring, and even if that is tracking, something must have happened to knock it out so badly (such as a hard Kerbing).
It could be wheel bearings even, so I would ask the garage what they have done. They should have checked the play in the bearings at the very least. If it was wearing on both edges of the same tyre, that could be due to someone running on the tyre when it was deflated. So I hope at th every least they are replacing the tyre and checking the suspension. Not wanting to scare anyone, but bad tyre wear is rarely just down to tracking by itself.

But looks like a nice one and WELCOME !!

Lots of friendly help on here.

I was tempted to go and see this one: http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classif...id/a53a184867f6e6c244c8d5f15e76598f?logcode=p

But while I quite like red, you can have too much of a good thing!! Plus there was no mention of service history and the better MPG of the TDI appealed.

You're right, Dan. Whilst the cloth differs between SE and Sport seats, the leather is the same whether SE or Sport.
Murdo hunted high and low for leather Sport seats with a rear bench for years.

Testing - Yes, you can have too much of a good thing. I've never seen a red A2 with red leather before. I can see what the original purchaser was aiming for, but to my eye it doesn't work. Also, I'm a TDI man, so as far as I'm concerned, you made the right choice. :)

wrong wiper.

It cannot be a 2001MY as the Sport version of the A2 was not available until 2002MY. Also, in the UK, a vast majority of 51-plate A2s are 2002MY, meaning that a 52-plate must also be at least 2002MY.

As you rightly point out, the old-style wiper means it cannot be a 2003MY, so it must be 2002.

Cheers,

Tom

Wipers were already aerotwin at the beginning of 2002, so the MY that started with Start-Of-Production 25.8.2001.
I know this also because my own car is an early 2002 (January) and already had Aerotwin as standard. I'm not the only one. Something doesn't fit here, but the FIN would be nice, as that would tell definitively. I *suspect* it's WAUZZZ8Z201xxxxx. Might be wrong, but then I don't understand the wiper.

Mines a Jan 2002 51-reg with the old style wiper so I'd go with ULP's view here. Must think about the mod though......
