So tonight….. was travelling at about 60mph going up a hill and decided to give the fizzy some workout… floored the accelerator and the eml started flashing on and off (was pleased with this as the eml has been on since I bought it) with a little hesitation on the engine. After the hill I settled down to 65 and everything was fine. With another 35 miles to home decided to take it steady. A couple of miles from home the fizzy did not want to go above 3k and stalled at the traffic lights (much to everyon’s annoyance). Got car home, left if for 1/2 hour and it started fine (took bonnet of and could not see anything amiss)…. on the motorway thought I could smell a little burning, but that might be paranoia?? Have decided that the fizzy can stay local for the time being whilst I put some miles on my keeper (noooooo).

So do not have VCDS yet (on my to get list) having spent £1000 on spare parts or new parts for the 1.4 (not replaced yet), I wondered what is wrong with fizzy….. I am pondering spending £££s for a new timing belt etc as it has done 2800 miles since early September…. And it has impressed. If it is coil packs/injections then I think it is worth a trip to garage. Any thoughts A2ers?
 
Not being nasty but...

The 4 things I tell new ( and existing ) owners to buy before anything else are..
At least 2 fully working keys.
VCDS Lite KKL cable and Windows XP-10 laptop as a minimum.
A good electrical test meter preferably the loop clamp type.
Owners manual pack as that contain essential information.

P.S. what state is your fuel filter in?
 
Point taken on the VCDS, it is on my to get list. CreweAudi keep flipping advertising rare parts so been snapping them up. The fizzy is one of Mr Broons cars.. so would think it has been well serviced in the past…. Probably due a service.. along with timing belt etc…. Just wondering what likely caused the failing today. At one point the tachometer when stopped at lights was flunctuating. Only best fuel used in car usually BP OR SHELL, last two fill ups Tesco 99.
 
If fuel filter good then possibly an engine earth issue. VCDS scan would probably narrow down the search but not everything is monitored on the A2.
