HID upgrades

I as some of you will know no longer have 'eggbert', however I am still interested in the A2 and have knowledge that I'm keen to share.
I mentioned a while back that I had come across a group buy via S246parts.com of H7 HID kits, I've been doing some research on the matter and have come across this ebay seller that would seem to do a good deal and is spoken quite highly of on Audi-forums.com

Their price is very competitive and spares are available, my only concern is the lack of a landline number to contact then on!
 
There was an article in last week's Auto Express titled 'Blinded by the light' which covered fitment of HID bulbs in normal headlights. I don't particularly agree with the article but the Dept for Transport have stated it is basically illegal to retrofit HID bulbs in normal headlight units which were not specifically designed for gas discharge bulbs and which dont have a self levelling system or headlamp washers
Policing may get tougher in the future so be aware

As far as I aware the type use regulations do not cover aftermarket equipment therefore cannot be deemed illegal due to lack of headlight automatic leveling and washers! they will have to rewrite the regs to pick this up and will end up certifying all aftermarket equipment like the do in Germany, imagine the cost, and guess who will be paying, correct us!
 
One of the new mods I have planned is to retro-fit a self-levelling system from the TT into Tank.

All that's left then is the headlamp washers, which is reliant on a new bumper and washer bottle.

The self-leveling control module is already on its way from Germany, and I'll be sizing the job up in the next few weeks.

O.E. fit?

Mike (Skipton01) or anyone else - were these available as a factory-fit option when new?

In theory, if so, there'll be a warehouse somewhere with units boxed up gathering dust.

They appeared on the A2 pricelist for a period of about 6 months, at a cost of £920, including headlamp washers, but I can't find reference to any part numbers, nor is there any reference to them in the workshop manual.

Hmm, most odd. So, presumably there'll also be an option code for them? I wonder if any of our continental friends have any as O.E. fit (albeit for RH traffic)?
