How MPG on DIS is calculated

Does anyone know how the DIS calculates MPG? I ask because its indicating that my FSI has been doing 43.5mpg over the last 200 miles. This is great considering the type of commute I have (short journey up over the welsh valleys).

It does however seem to be using way more than that. I calculate it to be around 32mpg. Can the DIS be THAT far out?

The ECU calculates how much fuel should be injected into each cylinder, so I would imagine that these values are added up and compared with the distance travelled. If there is a adverse discrepancy, I would imagine that you have a fuel leak or your injectors are worn and therefore require overhaul.

What a pleb. I'd forgotten that i'd reset the milometer after the second top up of fuel. Its actually doing 46.2. Very impressive and negligible difference between the FSI and a TDI on my commute.

You only got 42mpg on your TDi?

Your FSi gets more than my mum’s rubbishly underpowered and hideously slow 1.2L ecoflex 2015 corsa?

The world is full of mysteries...

All of my TDI's have only managed about 48mpg on my commute. It's 8 miles up over a mountain and back down the other side, cold engine and a bit of a climb.

My TDi is 60-65 all for 40k miles plus have gotten as much as 620 miles from a tank in the past. My 1.4i which is used for short journeys and a lot of town stuff is around 30mpg but not comparable cycles. My lupo gti engined FSI well I think that is getting in the 30s on the same duty cycle as the TDi
