How to remove brake master cylinder circlip

Want to rebuild the brake cylinder, but it has a circlip which doesn't seem made to be removed. Does someone know how to remove it?
The rebuild kit contains a new circlip and seals for the internals.

Thank you philward, that did the trick!
I removed the internals and replaced the seals, however it now pokes out (by roughly as much as the thickness of the last seal).
Can you see anything wrong with the image below?
I assume you're not meant to compress it (much), as it didn't all fly out when I removed the circlip.

My only thought is that the little cylinder (vertical in the image) shifted when I removed it and isn't actually supposed to be in that position, but I have no idea where else it would be supposed to go.

Just in case someone else has the same issue, I think the set-up above is correct but unless the small cylinder is exactly in the middle it snags. It took a couple of tries but now it's re-assembled.

Sadly it doesn't seem to have worked, so I think I need to get a new master cylinder.
Weirdly mine only has two M12x1 connections, while every replacement I can find on the internet has three. 🤔

Had the same problem with My MK2 Golf master cylinder. The rebuild failed rather like yours. I have two connections all replacement cylinders have 4. I had to buy two plugs designed for the job and blank the not required holes.

What kind of plug did you get? One of the standard rubber plugs?

No, they are steel plugs with a taper at the end that seals the cylinder.

I had real difficulty finding metal plugs, but someone suggested fitting a bleed valve as those are readily available.
Would one of them work? I am a little worried about the increased length compared to a normal bolt.

Using a bleed nipple is a good idea. Cut the nipple off to reduce the length (sounds painful) then make sure the hex doesn’t bottom out on the cylinder.

This is the product I ordered https://www.heritagepartscentre.com/uk/214611225-brake-master-cylinder-blanking-plug-m10x1.html
