Can anyone tell me how to remove the ECU from this unit?
I hope this is where it is...

The ECU is the thing with 2 plugs coming out of it (the silver box at the bottom).

To release it, just slide it out and release the plugs (TDi models) or if you've got a petrol, you'll have to release the 2 clips (1 either side), which are easily felt by putting a finger in alongside the silver box.

Cheers,

Mike

I'm trying to 'felt' those clips on 1.6 FSI, there's no way I can move them in any direction!

Did it!
But you can't just slide out the clips, actually it's a plastic bridge over the ecu with the clips ot the sides, before releasing the inside hooks behind both clips by pressing them with a screwdriver. Then the whole thing glides out.

Bloody thing. It's child proof/idiot proof and can't find a video to help me.
I have a video on my phone that shows me removing the ECU, with a full verbal description of exactly how to do it.
I'm not sure whether I can post videos straight to A2OC or whether they need to be hosted by a site such as YouTube. However, if you use Whatsapp, I can send it straight to anyone who sends me their number via a private message.

Cheers,

Tom

I wrote this for buyers of the Pro Boost map so it’s relevant here

Lift up the carpet on the passenger side
Turn the little black 'nipples' on the metal panel that's directly below the carpet
The metal panel removes
Inside you will see a black box with a load of wires going to it, that's the CCCU, the ECU is directly underneath.
You can remove the ECU without taking the CCCU out of the way but its far easier if you lift the CCCU out of the way.
There are two little tabs on the side of the CCCU that need pushing out of the way and then it just lifts up with the wires still attached
The ecu can then be pushed out of its holder
Once the ECU is out of its holder you can see that there are 2 block connectors attaching to it, these are released by pulling on the handle shaped part.

Refitting is just the reverse of the above.

It sounds long winded, but it will honestly not take longer than 5 minutes

Hi Steve, It's the two little tabs part that I'm struggling to 'push out of the way'. Hoping to see @timmus video soon! I've shared my mobile number with him.

Please send me tha video mate, i will pm you now, Ta

I managed to break the brackets when trying to move them with a screwdriver.

The complete bracket then came out and it has left me with the ecu being completely stuck in. I guess this bracket lifted some clips out of the way or something.

So be careful and don't be impatient like me.

If anyone can help me out with a replacement bit featured in the video let me know 🤔

you are not the first to break the ECU clip & wont be the last, I have broken at least 2 that I remember, If I remember correctly they were both from the 1.6 Fsi, the tdi is much easier to remove.

you say that .. I tried and failed repeatedly to unclip a tdi ECU until I eventually found @timmus ' video highlighting the need to depress the clip that you can feel (but not see) once you know where it is.. came close to breaking it before that point!
