Help got stung with dirty diesel at the weekend.I have drained the tank totally and ran the system dry.I now have clean diesel in my tank but car wont start ,not a peep. How do I bleed the system from scratch.Cheers Davy

quite bizzare I tried for about 10 mins of turning the engine over no joy, walked away and left it for 5 mins no joy, tried to get bleed details off elsawin wouldn't load (starting to flap at this point as I need the car in the morning)Finally in despair decided to take the filter off and give a quick check for fuel but before I go and put the ovvies back on I tried one more time.Started no probs but cut out tried again and started no bother at all.Strange

Glad to see its sorted.
I checked the manuals (replacing fuel tank, fuel cooler and high pressure pump) and none of these repairs included a procedure for bleeding the fuel system.

Cheers Spike

When I got Tank back from the repairers, as I'd had no speedo working and hence no input for the trip computer, I ran dry on the way home!

All it took was a 5 litre can of diesel and around 3 lots of 10 second bursts turning the engine over (with the gas pedal pushed down) and he fired up no problem.

There is a school of thought that says you should manually bleed the air from the injectors, but if you get the car going without, then it's normally OK.

Cheers,

Mike

Cheers for the replies guys.I did think about going to the injectors but felt it was a potential can of worms. What I can't understand is the complete and utter failure to start and I mean no intention at all for 10 mins, walk away for 10 mins and starts first time on return  I have heard on other cars that opening the doors starts the fuel pump at the tank. Not so on the A2 as I had all the fuel lines open in an attempt to drain the tank.
On a plus note I now know how to drain the tank completely and will post in a new thread how to do this if its not been done already :)
Cheers and thanks again Davy
