Evening all.

Its only taken me four months to post in the introductions forum,my bad and i won't do it again!
I do like this forum its a bit addictive,I keep dipping in and out all day to see what new posts are coming up and whats up for sale.
Bank balance keeps taking a knock....eh,Steve!

Talking of Steve,I bought his white A2 (project olaf) a month or so ago and I'm enjoying it, never been in or driven an A2 before.
Steve's a good chap and the sale went smoothly, there's a few thing that need doing and a few things to change but you have to except that on a 15 year old car.
Excellent MPG on the way back from Wales averaging 70 probably won't see that too many times!

I bought this car as a stop gap to see what Electric vehicles prices are in two years time, then my eldest should be learning to drive so it can be his learner.
I have a Gen 1 leaf that I use for a daily, so the A2 will do the longer range stuff.

I also have a bit of a garage queen with a Mk4 VW R32 which is pampered so the A2 won't get 100% of my spare time,it will be cleaned and polished and any work will get done but not pampered!!

Back to the A2.

I had the cambelt and waterpump changed straight away and a good job too as the belt was last changed in 2007 and the pump was the original factory one!
The belt did look fine on the car but when off you could see it was perishing.

Things to do on the A2 are
1, Replace the black alloys with the OEM Sports.
2.Remove the Votex kit.
  1. Replace aftermarket stereo with a OEM Concert.
  2. Change the SE steering wheel with a Sport one, already purchased.
So if anyone's interested in the bits I'm changing or has the parts I need ,please let me know.

I'll stop the waffle and perhaps add a picture or 5.
Cheers everyone
Regards Simon

Welcome Simon, at least the car you had from Steve was a good one. Not a fan of black wheels, just does not look right on the A2, sport steering wheel and OEM radio a must, But I disagree about removing the votex kit. Are the windows tinted ? Rest of the fleet look nice. Now where have I seen a flap that opens on the bonnet before.:p

First welcome.

I assume you know how much a Votex kit is worth, be prepared to be bombarded by PM's. I'm not a great Botox (deliberate) fan but concerned you will end up with an unsightly tidal mark of adhesive residue which all need work to remove and correct with a touchup respray.

White A2's are special.

That's also assuming that the car is even the same colour underneath the Votex kit...

Thanks for the welcome,I don't need the bling on this car so a near to standard is best when it comes to insurance for the learner!
Design taken from the A2?;)

Thanks Andy,Steve did tell me there rarity.
I'm hoping, with it being fitted when painted some 7 years ago, there might be a bit less adhesive than from when factory fitted.
Could be whistling in the wind there thou!

I think they all had the black plastic trim on the sides - two rubbing strips.

The Votex was originally fitted to the cars from factory as an option apparently so it doesn’t really make it ‘non-standard’.

Good luck and liking the Leaf.

Normally the factory fitted ones are easier to get off. Many use products like tiger seal to retrofit and the only way to get That off is to cut the kit off with a Stanley knife. It also leaves a horrible residue on the original bumpers that has to be machine sanded down before painting. It's hours and hours of prep work so the cost of fixing the mess afterwards won't be that far off the value of the kit.

That could put a spanner in the works, might be plan B

You’ll have to learn to love the Votex.
Never undetstood the attraction of them myself so I know where you are coming from!

Agreed - much better without tinis. Both my cars had tints. Can’t fathom why people spend money to tint already tinted windows!!
Carpet looking good.

The genuine Audi sports wheels have a reputation for being a little too easy to buckle in pot holes. There are a good replica wheel that has dual pitch stud pattern i.e 5x100 and 5x112 that are much stronger and usually cheaper than the genuine ones. I run these myself.

We managed to buckle 3 on our early sport a2s we had years ago so if you live down rural lanes stay well clear ..mind you from what I’ve seen some towns and cities they are not mending pot holes either ..those 17” sport wheels do seem very easy to buckle though..
