Idiot's guide to replacing front windscreen wiper (parts and how to)

The front wiper blade has worn out and now fails to shift more than a sprinkle of water on my 2002 A2
1.4

I've flicked through a couple of posts as to what to do about replacing it but at the risk of sounding an
idiot, can anyone point me in the direction of

a) what replacement parts I'll need (new arm or just a new blade to fit to the existing one)
b) how easy it is to fit them

I believe there are conversion kits for the later models of A2 but I wasn't sure whether these were applicable
or not

I'm sure there is at least one other thread already concerning the above but I've not been able to find one,
so if there is apologies and could you point me in the right direction

I'd hate to have to take the car into a garage/dealers just to have a new wiper blade fitted

Funnily enough, just put one on myself 10 mins ago, bought a new blade from my local stealer,£14.08, clipped/slid the old one off,and had 3 goes at putting the new one on :D:D Sussed it in the end tho. push/pull (?) the little clip on the plastic clip, slide it out of the metal arm, and just slide the new one on and you'll hear the click.

Easy peasy ;) I can do 4 things on my A2 now, fill it up, top-up Oil and washer bottle, and change a wiper blade :D

wiper blade + spare wheel.

Hi chris1972, first re the spare wheel : try and purchase the standard size 15" wheel that fits all A2s,, alloy(7 spokes with 5 stud/bolt holes) 'these' are always coming up for sale on e/bay, plus are better than original spacesaver wheel.
The tyre size for this wheel is 175/60 r15 81v xvi, dont pay more than tops £30.00 this should include wheel +tyre, in the past i've sold these to A2 owners in IAOC, all said they hade no problems fitting into boot floor(if a little tight).
Now the wiper blade arms:earlier models A2 had the steel arm blade which worked OK but used to move around and make noises etc. the 'new'
type blade is refered too as the Floppy arm, these are certainly an improvement as they sit down squat on the screen and inproved removal of water + no wind noises etc. on the new type blades you lift the complete double arm up to 12 o'clock position twist the floppy blade through 90 degrees, lift off side-ways, fitting is reversal, job done!. one other thing to remember is the earlier double metal arm won't take the floppy arm wiper without being converted, some-one has made a modified 'clip thingy' but not sure how to purchase this?
finally, if no clip thingy you will have to purchase a complete new, metal double arm that will accept the floppies,
hope this is of some help
Cheers,ALAN>

The clip thingy was made by someone in Germany and was posted on here from one of the german A2OC members, if you was wanting to do the convertion as i did last year, i got mine from a scrapper less than £40 all in .

If you just want to replace old style1, put the wiper up to 90 degrees (window down, turn ignition on, wipers on as they get to the top, ignition off), then tilt arm back, then tilt wiper back to 90 degrees there is a clip you press (and hold) then push downwards. The hook part will hit the blade but it will flex to let you remove it, then fit in reverse order.

Got the old arm in the garage if i get time later will take photos and post on here

Cheers Phil
