Improving my mpg

Hi,

If I reset the trip computer thingy and mpg how long does it take before it gets somewhat accurate again?

If I add a new air filter (KN) improve anything mpg wise?

Any thing else, I can replace to improve fuel usage.

I have checked all tyres, would it be better to have them more inflated or less inflated, for example I think I have them on around 34-36 psi for 205/17 tyres.. which is the setting for about 3 people in the car I think

Alan the former owner of the car told me, he was getting just over 50 now when I have it, its now on 45, this is since I reset a month or so ago... I dont put my foot down, my foot is quite light..

Basic things can help - higher tyre pressures will improve MPG. Change your air filter, change the oil, that'll help too. If you have aircon, turn it off. Switch the engine off if you're stuck in traffic going nowhere for more than about 30secs. Accelerate less, brake less...

Is it your first diesel?

Are you still driving like a petrol head, rather than a sooty socks. It DOES make a BIG difference. Let those torques do their job.............................
