I'm still debating in my mind about whether to pay to have my 6 disc cd changer fitted somewehre in my A2, or go for one of these hard drive based MP3 players. Not in a rush, and I'm sure the cd changer option is the cheapest, but for us tech lovers out there, I came across two new head units from Sony and Pioneer.

Both these DIN size heard units contain a hard disc of about 10gb built in along with normal CD/radio functions. The Sont unit rips music straight from an inserted CD!. Wonderful technology, and looks fantastic, but at about £1000 each-I thibk I'll stick with the changer!.

Hello!

As posted in another thread, I can only recommend the Apple iPod. Cheaper than the in-Dash-units, it can sit in the cup holder above tha radio, so you can see the playing tracks, the LCD is illuminated all the time, and you can take it out whenever you want. I use mine all the time in my A2.

Bye, Frido

P.S.: I´m not affiliated with Apple in any way..:)

Frido-yes I remember you mentioning the iPOD-I will look into it.

Still like the sound of having a hard disk in the dashboard behind a very cool head unit. But then I love technology!.

One example for MP3 in a car...:)
<http://www.mp3car.com/usersites/Destin/home.html> Looks nice, but I don´t want to know about the cost. That site should have a lot of useful info about car MP3 players.

Bye, Frido.

A friend of mine is trying to build this in his seat. He has a old laptop screen which can be connected to a normal videocard. He's using a small form factor pc which can be installed in the trunk. The pc will be running linux and will be connected to the radio via a soundcard (optical fibre). One of the more difficult things is the power supply, the voltage in a car can vary a lot so the PSU has to be very stable. There will be a 20 or 40 Gb harddisk in the player and that will provide many hours of music !
To add new music he's thinking of using an ethernetjack in his trunk to connect to his homenetwork but I'm trying to persuede him to use WiFi :) Imaging, just park your car outside your house and download new music to your MP3 player via WiFi !!

@deheld:

WiFi would really be nice.... I´d be content if someone would find a way to display Song titles on the DIS Display..:)
