Inlet Manifold Help

Depends if you're up for DIY or not. If you are, buy a used manifold, clean and refurb it, then swap it over, or get a mechanic to do the swap.
If not, find a VAG Indie, with FSI experience, who can do everything for you. Once it's done, use only 98/99 octane fuel, from big brand (Shell Nitro for me), and you'll not have to worry again.
Mac.

I've just heard back from RSAutotechnik and the inlet manifold flaps that came off my car just need a good clean so this will be available. @A2Louis has already expressed and interest so first dibs go to him. I can either get it cleaned (vapour blasted) or sell it as it is.

Next problem.... Apparently the housing cracked on the end of the cylinder head when it was all going back together - I am hoping that it's not expensive - anybody know what the part number would be?

Which housing? The thermostat housing? There are a lot of items in that area.

Pleased you are making progress and the lower manifold is not broken, just gummed up but we knew it would be to some extent.

I think everyone is not sure exactly what you mean by broken housing. It does suggest thermostat housing by general location which most likely was removed to renew the death pipe. It does become highly brittle with age due to the high coolant temperature of the FSI so no surprise it broke. Often argued it should be renewed anyway at this oppurtunity as they inevitably begin to leak at the seal or from hairline fractures at this age, so in a way it has saved the labour costs of a near future job, an element of future proofing.

You ask about a part number. If it is indeed the thermostat housing read my recent post here. Credit to Nod for the original link. You might well buy just the housing cheaper, especially the cheaper brands but this way with new thermostat and sensor more future proofing.

Andy

This appears to be the suspect part, does anybody recognise it?

Thanks, Jeff

I only had part of the thermostat housing replaced
Pleased to see you are making progress, have you the car back yet (& the bill)?

Your quoted statement. You cannot replace part of the housing, it's all one piece. I think what you mean it was a new housing and the old thermostat and sensor were reused.

Andy

TBH I'm not exactly sure what was replaced but it looks like it wasn't enough. I've not got the car back yet, on to ebay this evening I guess.

Don't buy used, its a false economy, but I hope you are sitting down because I don't think they are cheap.

I'm just looking through ebay, there appears to be a huge price range. From what I can see I must have had the thermostat and sensor changed (as @ steve_c said) but you don't seem to be able to buy the housing on it's own.

1. I think that is the opposite of what steve_c said???

2. Buying a used part for the housing is madness, it will most likely be already brittle with age to some extent.

3. I think you want to establish exactly what is needed, I am still not 100% clear, the thermostat housing I guess.

4. I will reiterate the suggestion I made within the link of my post #66 for housing+thermostat+sensor, oem quality at a very good price.

5. Yes, there is a huge price range, but you get what you pay for.

6. Be warned, in many adverts the word thermostat housing is ambiguous, sometimes it means all three bits other times just the thermostat or just the housing.

7. Is there a part number on what you showed in the picture? A picture of it would be good. A search by this part number might be safer way to go.

8. You can buy the housing separate, just look on autodoc for example.

And I think it's the opposite of what you said!

We're agreed however that buying odd bits here and there is no way forward at all. New thermostat, new sensor and new housing is definitely the way to go.
