Instruments and Ignition

I think there was a recent post that said that you shouldn't remove the instrument pod with the ignition key in or something in case it messed up the immobiliser coding.

I have searched for the post, but can't find it

As I'm about to remove the dash, is it possible for someone to re-iterate the warning, to make sure I don't mess up.

Much appreciated,

Alan

You're right,

Disconnect the battery negative with the key in and the car switched on to the Acc. position - this ensures that any current spikes are minimised.

Then take the key out and continue with dis-assembly.

Good luck,

Cheers,

Hi Alan

Here's acouple more sugestions to add to Skipton's advice -
After removing the steering wheel, tape up the centre of the steering angle sensor to stop it moving. Mine got 360 deg out of sync and triggered the ABS warning lamp when put back together. It took a while to realise what had happened - and required a reset with vagcom.
When everything is back together, turn the ignition switch on before re connecting the battery. In the unlikely event of anything going wrong with the airbags, you'r not in the cabin if they are activated. It also seems to negate the need for re-coding any of the modules after the battery has been disconnected.

Cheers Spike

Thanks, Spike, much appreciated.
I'll see if I can recognise the steering angle sensor, and do exactly as you suggest.

I'm just trimming the RNS-E at the mo, and test fitting to the new dash (on the bench) - a suggestion from Skipton. As you will tell, I'm trying not to rush!
