Insurance cost for A2

So i've decided to jump ship and go with LVE for £294 (£200 excess), as AF were wanting to charge me £430 for that privilege. I also didn't know that my excess was £450 total eek! so bye bye AF.
Do LVE do modified cars?

Adrian flux are a broker. I’m insured via them but my actual policy is with Zurich I think. Last year was someone else.

They did shop around for me when I called them up and said nope so they did end up cheapest for me.

Good job on the voucher Cammy!

My AF insurer is Equity Red Star which is managed by Cox Syndicate Management. Been with ERS for yonks, maybe cause I got a remap. Very interesting to hear from Mr Angry that LVT do modified cars. Will add them to my list for the next renewal.

Sounds good to me. I'm with Adrian Flux and pay £100 more and I'm just over 70. I have over 5 years NCB (I think most insurers only go back 5 years), and it's modified (like yours - I presume you have declared that along with all the other mods). At the last renewal I added my son who had a minor accident 2 years ago and the premium did not increase.

There are other factors such as location. I tried to look up crime rates for your area and compare to mine but as you are in Scotland they seem to be recorded differently (https://niceareas.co.uk/) . Generally, Wiltshire is a low crime rate county but there are bound to be hot spots and insurers now have data down to post code level.

As I think I stated earlier. One year it went up a lot with AF for no apparent reason. I rang them up and asked them to explain. Of course the call centre clerk has no idea but she rang through to the brokers and eventually came back with a premium even less than the previous year! Worth calling but don't leave it to the last minute as they know you have little time to organise an alternative. Ring 2 weeks before.
Adrian Flux will have delegated authority so there won't be any phone call to the insurers - they are the brokers and insurance brokers are supposed to be on the customer's side. Not at all sure that they are.

I inputed the mods online via confused and LVE were top of the list. I then checked more info and everything seems to be fine :) Maybe they have just amended there business model to suit now considering the amount of people that do mod there cars now, who knows.

I had the same on Confused.com and MS. There was a whole section for mods including wheels, seats, stickers and badges. Maybe it’s more mainstream now but there were loads of options for companies to cover. Shame they were more expensive.

I went with the compare the (emerging price fixing scandal) lot, got the free cuddly toy and sold it on ebay - effectively takes £20 off cost of policy.

Just had the renewal from Adrian Flux and it went up from £436 to £470 including £40 for agreed value. I rang them and said I was disappointed there was an increase especially as the car had hardly been used in the last year and other insurers were giving rebates. They refused to give another quote.

So went to confused.com (for the first time). Not off to a good start when using my reg. no. They say I have an A2 SE Colour Storm with 5 seats when I have an A2 SE with 4 seats. Anyway I continued. I put in that it was chipped +25%, modified transmission (it has a higher 5th gear) and cosmetic body changes (I have the earlier grill). Also my son aged 45 as a second driver, 5 years NC, no motoring offences, social use only, kept in drive at night, retired, £250 voluntary excess (they add this to the compulsory excess, typically £150 so £400 in total), legal insurance, courtesy car, windscreen (typically £100 to pay) and personal accident but excluding any Agreed Value (not given any option for that). I have AV with AF of £3,000 but I suspect that will go down to £2,500 when I submit the photos. Confused value the car at £1,400.

Given the mods I wasn't expecting many quotes but it came back with 26 quotes from £177 Sainsburys (must buy today) to £1,079 at Got You Covered. I suspect the high quotes are companies that do not want to cover modified cars. Most quotes (13) are from £250 to £300.

Screen shot attached of all the quotes. I'm tempted by Sainburys - says they have 5 star defaqto rating, not that I've heard of defaqto but don't like the must buy today. Will mean loss of Agreed Value but I'm thinking after 16 years it may be time to move on and buy an EV.

Car insurance is a total joke nowadays, they squirm like a barrel of eels.
Bought time they were investigated like the banks were.

They certainly don't make it straight forward like it used to be.

Flux was never cheap ....we were with our local broker for 30years ..They got taken over by one of the big boys all change no loyalty price hikes we ended up with aviva 3 cars ..and 1 with general accident bike with carol Nash all 3 very competitive but more than that so nice on the phone like old school .. I can only speak for our own personal experiences but they’ve been superb for the last six years..

When it comes to loyalty all that means to insurance companies is a continual increase in your policy prices. For years my cars were insured with Moron oops sorry read More Than. 2 years ago I had the renewal through for 1st car and thought it was a bit steep. Contacted Audi Insurance and insured BOTH cars for a little bit less than the cost of one with Moron. Audi guaranteed repairs with warranty, legal and courtesy car. Best part is the fix your renewals for 3 years ( although both came down a bit this year ). Third car was swapped to Audi Insurance end of last year also.

Well that was a unpleasant experience. No wonder people just renew.

I decided to pick the cheapest on confused.com. Normally I would be wary a quote that is much cheaper than the rest but it was Sainsburys and I already have home insurance with them and on the one occasion I've called their call centre they were quick to answer and very helpful.

So I click through from confused.com to Sainburys to find the premium had gone up by £60! So I rang them. They answered quickly and were friendly and tried to help. He said that these prices changes happen a lot with lots of customers complaining. He said that the underwriter for confused was Covea but on transferring to Sainburys they had declined and therefore Sainsburys used Sabre. He spent a lot of time going through my details trying to find out why it was declined.

In the end he called Covea but they refused to quote. So I went for the Sabre quote. I'd been on the phone 1/2 hour at this point and was getting fed up. I could of gone back to the next quote on confused but these were either unknown companies to me or Halifax and Lloyds - too mainstream and likely to decline as well I thought, given the mods.

It is still £160 less than Adrian Flux (excluding the agreed value). And I do get a £20 Halfords gift voucher which will buy some more car mats.

First time I've used a comparison site. In some ways they do help (only enter details once and get lots of quotes) but they are unreliable leave a bitter taste in the mouth.
