Adrian FluxWho is af ins ?
Do LVE do modified cars?So i've decided to jump ship and go with LVE for £294 (£200 excess), as AF were wanting to charge me £430 for that privilege. I also didn't know that my excess was £450 total eek! so bye bye AF.
Adrian Flux will have delegated authority so there won't be any phone call to the insurers - they are the brokers and insurance brokers are supposed to be on the customer's side. Not at all sure that they are.Sounds good to me. I'm with Adrian Flux and pay £100 more and I'm just over 70. I have over 5 years NCB (I think most insurers only go back 5 years), and it's modified (like yours - I presume you have declared that along with all the other mods). At the last renewal I added my son who had a minor accident 2 years ago and the premium did not increase.
There are other factors such as location. I tried to look up crime rates for your area and compare to mine but as you are in Scotland they seem to be recorded differently (https://niceareas.co.uk/) . Generally, Wiltshire is a low crime rate county but there are bound to be hot spots and insurers now have data down to post code level.
As I think I stated earlier. One year it went up a lot with AF for no apparent reason. I rang them up and asked them to explain. Of course the call centre clerk has no idea but she rang through to the brokers and eventually came back with a premium even less than the previous year! Worth calling but don't leave it to the last minute as they know you have little time to organise an alternative. Ring 2 weeks before.
Flux was never cheap ....we were with our local broker for 30years ..They got taken over by one of the big boys all change no loyalty price hikes we ended up with aviva 3 cars ..and 1 with general accident bike with carol Nash all 3 very competitive but more than that so nice on the phone like old school .. I can only speak for our own personal experiences but they’ve been superb for the last six years..Just had the renewal from Adrian Flux and it went up from £436 to £470 including £40 for agreed value. I rang them and said I was disappointed there was an increase especially as the car had hardly been used in the last year and other insurers were giving rebates. They refused to give another quote.
So went to confused.com (for the first time). Not off to a good start when using my reg. no. They say I have an A2 SE Colour Storm with 5 seats when I have an A2 SE with 4 seats. Anyway I continued. I put in that it was chipped +25%, modified transmission (it has a higher 5th gear) and cosmetic body changes (I have the earlier grill). Also my son aged 45 as a second driver, 5 years NC, no motoring offences, social use only, kept in drive at night, retired, £250 voluntary excess (they add this to the compulsory excess, typically £150 so £400 in total), legal insurance, courtesy car, windscreen (typically £100 to pay) and personal accident but excluding any Agreed Value (not given any option for that). I have AV with AF of £3,000 but I suspect that will go down to £2,500 when I submit the photos. Confused value the car at £1,400.
Given the mods I wasn't expecting many quotes but it came back with 26 quotes from £177 Sainsburys (must buy today) to £1,079 at Got You Covered. I suspect the high quotes are companies that do not want to cover modified cars. Most quotes (13) are from £250 to £300.
Screen shot attached of all the quotes. I'm tempted by Sainburys - says they have 5 star defaqto rating, not that I've heard of defaqto but don't like the must buy today. Will mean loss of Agreed Value but I'm thinking after 16 years it may be time to move on and buy an EV.
