Insurance cost for A2

Hi all, I acquired my first A2 in August and I need to juggle my insurance policies to add the A2 I have other cars on my policy a summer TT and an S1, as I only use the TT, 6 months of the year. I decided to transfer this policy to the A2. The TT was only £210 for a 4k mileage per year the A2 was £382 for 10k annual mileage, this was more than the S1. I know all insurance is risk based and being with SAGA in that age category I thought cost would go down.

Anyone else experience this relatively high insurance cost or am I being overly optimistic and is this the expected premium for an all-aluminium car.

Unless you share a communal driveway with a prison or young offenders institution that would seem a tad high.

I live in the East End of Glasgow and my car is on a busy street and insurance is less than £300 a year for 15,000

I thought SAGA would be more likely to reward loyalty and never claiming on car and home insurance. The don't!
Bought my A2 1.4 petrol 14 months ago. AA insurance with new customer discount on breakdown was best on 4,000 miles.
I live in east Kent.
That cost increased this year.
Gone over to NFU. Cost was £245 with protected NCB and RAC national recovery etc.
They assured me the RAC cost would not change next year.
Here's hoping.

No such thing as loyalty...? We were with AA for 25 years one callout we’ve just had friends join the AA and they’re paying a lot less than we are and when I queried it that was a bonus for a new person joining ? so I quit AA and went to green flag..it’s same with everyone kick up a stink with sky threaten to leave and see how much cheaper deal you get ..stay loyal and quiet gets you nothing ..it’s the world we live in unfortunately..☹️..

I have an Admiral multi car policy and was pleasantly surprised that the cost of adding my A2 was only about £150 so swapping to a multi car policy may be an option.
We did the same with aviva we have 3 cars with them Can highly recommend and one policy with general accident 1 car with them ..?

Of course loyalty exists, problem is it is rewarded with price increases. ? Many companies know people are too lazy to shop around for the best prices at renewal so they increase the price. I don't like it though I'm prepared to play the game. Broadband provider changing tomorrow saving £20pm.

It’s not just laziness older people myself included do have a sense of loyalty to a company and not all of us are computer savvy or street wise and I think that’s were a lot of companies exploit us it’s a real shame ...it’s like my word is my bond not sure how far that goes these days ..it’s not a better world we live in ☹️...great saving on your broadband ?.

Insurance discussion come up regularly on this forum. So many variable! See here for the lasted thread:

My Dad was with Saga, he’s not any more. Total dip off merchants preying on the older generation.

Some time ago, my A3 expired with a faulty camshaft. I then aquired an A2 and got onto Saga and told them that I was changing my car and would they tell me how much the new one would be. I had owned the A3 for ten years and been with Saga all that time. No claims and so on. Back they came with the new quote........£1750.00. Yes, that's right seventeen hundred and fifty pounds. A long and boring story followed involving the Ombudsman and so on. A waste of time. The upshot is that insurance companies can do what they like.

Adrian Flux quoted me £350.00.

Guess who I'm with.

As I have said on the other post . Try Audi Insurance, at least worth getting a quote from them. BTW they keep your renewal at the same price for three years, as long as you do not make a claim.

Hi all, thanks for all the feedback I think SAGA are taking the mick as I wanted to transfer one policy across I was tied so unbale to shop around, next year I will shop around for all three, I have tried multi car with Admiral before but it became a pain if one family member left if can affect the other costs.

This is a very timely thread, yesterday I had the quote through from Admiral for my muliticar policy for the three A2's plus my Volvo C70. It initially came in only about £45 more than last year, but I still put all four cars through Confused.com and three of them came out £15-20 cheaper each on single policies elsewhere.

So I just spoke to a lovely Welsh lady in their call centre (working from home on a very clear line). We juggled my mileages between the cars slightly which made about £15 improvement. Then she did her magic to beat the cheaper quotes - net result, another £102 off, so £117 in total. The final figure is well under £700, that's significantly less than I originally paid last year ? However, you may remember that Admiral refunded all customers £25 per car during the lockdown. The new figure for this year's premium is still above the net figure for last year, but only by £30 or so - I can live with that :)

Just goes to show, it's always worth making that phone call. Just remember to compare like with like - this year's quote against the real price of last year's policy after any refunds they gave you.

I’ve found Quote Me Happy to be the best and cheapest for many years. Multi Car Discount. On Line Self Service with Changes Made Free of any Admin Charges. Add another Driver for a week or a few days. Take them off again on line yourself at any time of Day or Night. Been with them a few years now.
