Interior light problem etc

Hi

I have a 51 plate 1.4tdi, its a great car however it has a couple of faults since I purchased it which i am trying now to sort out. I am reaching out for any guidance on how to get them fixed.

The interior lights front and rear work OK on the manual switch but when switched to the door contact position the interior lights remain on all the time, with no change when the doors are opened or closed and also remain on when the ignition is live and car started. Bit of a pain as I have to keep the interior lights switched off.

I have been reading through numerous posts on the forum and have carried out the basic checks to try to get to the bottom of it.

When each door is opened one at a time the door open symbol on the instrument display lights up and goes out when the door is closed.
When the drivers door is opened the fuel flap and alarm button illuminates and can be operated with no issues ( I have also tried the fuel flap button etc with the drivers door closed which it isolates correctly). This indicates if i'm right that the door micro switches are operating as they should.
What else could be causing the problem with the interior lights staying on ?

I have also have a battery drain issue, after about 4 days the battery is flat, I will check the current draw with a meter however the battery shouldn't go flat in this time.

I have also noticed when I turn the ignition on the door locks cycle once, is there a problem with a lock micro switch which is preventing the sleep mode ?

Or do I have a problem with the CCU - how to get that repaired.

Any advice is very welcome

you have described all the classic symptoms of a failing CCCU

On the age of car you will almost certainly have the Q version (last digit in the part number) which is by far the most unreliable one out there
Look out for a second hand AF version, try @Clackers
you will need to get the key remote coded to the new CCCU, but that is not a big problem there will be someone near you with VAGCOM who will do this for you for a few bear tokens / brew and bacon butty :)

If you want remove all the plugs from the CCCU and see if you battery drain goes away
Car is usable but windows / central locking / int lights / etc are not functional

Cheers,
Paul

I do indeed have an AF unit available for £25 + £4 P&P
I am going away on Saturday for a week, so if you require it next week please let me know asap and I can post out 2pm Saturday at the latest.

Andy thanks I have PM you on messenger as you know my brother in law and I am from your neck of the woods. One question I believe my remotes are not compatible with the AF version if they are for the Q CCCU. Do you have remotes for this AF ?

AH, all makes sense...yes I know your brother in law!
I am unsure whetehr the fobs are compatible, I'm sure womeone else can give us a heads up on this one, as mine doesn't have any fobs sadly.
Andy
@timmus any ideas if they are compatible or is it possible to code them?

Thanks Andy
Also I don't have rear electric windows which I believe is still ok for AF CCCU ?
if the Q remotes arn't compatible what I'm after then is an AF CCCU with remotes and someone in the Northwich area to code them my car anyone help with either of these ?
thanks in advance

Yes, the AF CCCU can handle electic or manual rear windows.

If it comes with remotes, as I understand it, they don't need coding to the car, because only they only talk to the CCCU, not the car's ECU. What you do is open the AF fobs and your existing fobs into their two halves as if you were going to change the batteries, then fit the remote ends of the AF fobs to the blade sections of your existing fobs. The blade section contains the transponder that talks to your ECU to release the immobiliser when you put the key in the ignition.

However if the AF CCCU came from a car with electric rear windows, it would need re-coding to configure it for manual ones in your car. I'm not sure if the same applies for any other option differences between the donor and your car, perhaps @timmus could confirm? But if you don't know the spec of the donor, it's still probably worth having someone with VCDS on hand to re-code the CCCU if necessary.

Thanks

Is there anyone on here with a AF CCCU and remotes for sale (ideally manual rear windows)

Andy - as discussed thanks for your help but think it's better to try to get one with remotes. I'll get in touch over other items once this is sorted

You are not that far from Tom(Timmus) for you to visit, he might well be able to help to do everything in one go, send him a PM.
