Interior panel - broken/replaceable?

Hi Guys,
I'm trying to fix some little things that have been annoying me for a while. We have this panel which is to the left of the glovebox (1.4 TDi) and for the last few years it has been held on with double sided tape. Is something broken on it, or was it not designed to actually come off? Would love to find a way to secure it back on so any help would be appreciated.

Cheers

It's supposed to be one piece with the glovebox, although you do see them separated more often than you might expect. It would originally have been fixed on with the hot plastic welds in your lower picture. I've not seen a solution to reattach it. If double-sided isn't working, you could try epoxy? But since it would ideally be a glovebox-off job to fix it, you might ask @A2Steve or @Clackers if one of them has a decent Soul glovebox available. And fit @depronman's light switch fix while you're at it.

That's really useful, thank you. I thought it may have been 'welded' in place but wanted to check with the experts first :D

Light switch fix? I'll look into that. Cheers

Good Evening,

Yes it is integral to the glove box and not available as a separate part, but having said that it was clearly manufactured as a separate piece and fixed to the glovebox. Strikes me it is a push fit, most strange the bits in your picture are kind of clips that locate into rows of holes on the backing plate, rather than waffle a picture..

They are very stiff and most likely intended as single use clips but you could try to reinsert, best to take the glovebox out so you can see what you are doing, but that does depend on no breakages on the backing plate.

Edit. Does look they have plastic welded once pushed through the holes.

Gut feeling is you will need to Araldite/epoxy/new sticky pads or simply buy another, circa £30 from sources Ian mentioned.

What's galling is there is no benefit in forcing the piece off, no extra access, a faux pas by somebody.

Thanks Andy. I think you're correct, someone got a bit grabby at some point! It's a minor thing really, just an annoyance. I'll have a look and see what sort of fix I can do. If I get time I'll take the glove box out and go from there.

Cheers!

Or try to repair it yourself. Remove the glovebox from the car and make sure the loose part is a good fit onto the glovebox. Remove any old glue or tape. Areas that touch you could apply a small amount of super glue. This could be finished off on the inside of the glovebox by applying baking powder to the "slots" where the loose part is visible and dropping more super glue onto the powder. It will set like concrete.

Never heard that before, I'll have a look - simple sounds good :)

Cheers
