Introducing project Jaipur

It is interesting because it's a right hand drive car Steve. Could it have been an unregistered "display model" for a couple of years somewhere in the UK. ?

Steve,

This might not be the case but a possibility which could explain why you have LHD spec’d RHD A2.

The A2 could have simply been purchased by a customer living in Europe who was after a RHD car and wanted it delivering to somewhere in Europe (outside the UK), thus ending up with a European spec’d vehicle in RHD.

I have actually done this many times myself whilst serving in Germany. I was buying cars tax free that hadn't been shipped to the UK and was collecting them from my local Audi dealership abroad. There is probably a lot more out there than you think as many Forces personnel who were buying tax free cars around this period would keep them for 12-18 months then sell them back in the UK then moving into their next new car. Probably more A4 and A6 euro spec RHD than A2s though.

Just a thought.

Kind regards,

Tom

Next up was tackling the ABS fault. A clear of the fault codes and re-drive brought up only one code.. YAW sensor, but being an early model car, it was proving quite difficult to find one.

I had the exact same problem with JRV when I got it, but it was intermittent, kept bugging me for ages till it was swapped out.

Next up were the spongy brakes.

I can't believe I had been test driving this car around my estate, when removing the pads they fell into pieces and were more than dangerous.

New padig discs and pads saw to that.

I've bled the brakes, but they are still a little spongy for my liking, stops the car lovely, but will give it another go.
Steve,
It maybe worth changing the entire fluid as it’s hygroscopic & takes in water if it’s the same fluid as when you acquired it from the collection.
It made a world of difference to mine , used a vacuum bleeding kit from amazon & the compressor as an air source.

That's good advice, the little bit I took out was black so we'll overdue a complete flush.

The colour has come up lovely Steve, nice work :) it goes really well with the dark mirrors and handles, are those parts painted like on a Storm?

Absolutely, 100% agree. This is a RoI A2. I've worked on a few of them over the years and they've all been like this; no colour coding to the wing mirrors and door handles.

Cheers,

Tom

Thanks for your input Tom, seems logical.

To add / backup, mine is an import from mainland Europe and came fully colour coded.

Super resin polish. I'll do a few cotes of it and then wax at some point
I’d give it two coats of EGP over the top of the SRP as quick & will prolong shine until you can get a few coats of wax over the top.

It’s Looking good Steve.

Keith.

There is also the chance the car was bought overseas by serving forces to bring back at the end of their tour. Hence RHD but unusual spec.

Just passed it's MOT with only a rubber boot on the drop link perishing. Not bad for a car that's been off the road for 2 years

Really love what you have
done with this car a real transformation, love the car and the colour
