I just won a Ipod (lucky me [25]) and am now wondering how to get the best use of it in the car.

I have a Concert Symphony CD/tuner (the one that came with an 03 SE spec) and wondered if people could suggest ways to connect it? I have seen the transmitter option that you then tune the radio to receive and wondered what the quality is like (and I know its illegal in the UK...) but wondered if these stereos had any inputs in the back so that the unit could be hard wired in?

Any suggestions gratefully accepted.

Congratulations on winning the iPod! (I have my second one now and am VERY happy with it!)

The best option for you is to get a device called "ICELink" <http://www.ice-link.com>, which is attached to the Symphony´s CD changer connector and even allows you to control the iPod with the Head unit´s buttons...

It can be bought at <http://www.ihavetohave.it/acatalog/ICE-Link_Audi.html> in the UK....

Bye, Frido.

Can I ask is it true that the I-Pod can only be recharged 500 times then you have to replace it
cheers
Dave

500 to a 1000 times a very normal number for any rechargable battery, no matter what type or size.

And why worry about it?
If you charge your Ipod twice a week, it would still last at least 5 years!
Do you charge it twice a week, every week, all year long?
Do you still want that same, worn, outdated Ipod in five years time, when everybody has an Ipod v10 which is three times smaller and even better sound and a 100x the features? ;)
I don't think so. Just enjoy your current Ipod!

Thanks for the tips on the Ice-Link - it certainly looks good. I assume the standard head unit has the required cd changer inputs? Can you select playlists etc from the head unit or just scroll forward and back through your '000's of tracks?

Can you recommend hpw ypu have routed the cable to the Ipod holder. I'm actually not sure whether to get the holder as anyone looking in might assume there is an Ipod in the car! I'm tempted just to leave it in the tray in front of the gear lever, especially if you control it from the head unit itself.

Thanks

@Bigpikle:

At the moment I have mounted the iPod dock beneath the ashtray with a piece of velcro, the cable comes out of the footwell compartment (where the power adaptor for the iPod is located) and at the moment runs up on the side of the center console.
I´m trying to mount the iPod dock in one of the cup holders, so that it is hidden and the iPod is resting in the cup holder. I´m only waiting for warmer weather..:)

The iceLink can only switch between playlists (back and forward), and tracks, you can not select lists from the head unit´s display (this is only possible with forthcoming head units from Alpine...)

Thanks for the info - I think I need to plan it to look at what I want to do with it in the car. I also need to get a splitter for the cig lighter so I can have power for all the devices I use!

Ive just fitted my ice link into my A2. At the moment its the best kit out there for the iPod in car.. I've got the cable to the ipod coming through the tray under the climate and the ipod mounted in a brodit ipod cradle on a proclip mount next to the climate panel.
All in it took 20 mins to fit. You can always just slide the ipod into this tray as when it is pushed in you cannot see it at all.
You cant switch playlists from the head unit but as the ipod is right there just change the list on that then use the headunit to skip tracks.
The ice link takes its power from the head unit and you run your firewire from the ice link to charge you ipod.
