Is a 90bhp crank the same as a 75 bhp crank?

My 90 bhp has oil light on and hydraulic followers got noisey, and come to a sudden stop as I turned off the ignition key, so presuming crank gone, will inspect as time permits to confirm, I'm half expecting the chain drive to the oil pump to have jumped off! I have a spare engine hence the question about the cranks, I would appreciate any info about basic engine differences, the stroke should be the same being both being 1.4cc, I don't think there would be much difference between the basic engines, however I await to be enlightened ! Thanks in advance,

Just in case you are thinking of using the full short block, fairly sure the 90 TDi has lower compression pistons

Cheers Spike

Thanks Spike, if that's the case, as Diesel engines rely on a higher compression ratio compared to petrol's that detail would not be obvious , thanks again bud.

For info, the variable vane 90 tdi turbo probably gives more boost pressure so to ensure the max cylinder pressures stay within limits lower compression pistons are used

Cheers Spike

Thanks Spike, I guess an extreme soloution would be to get the vernier gauges etc.,measure a 90 brake piston against a 75 brake piston and stuff it under the milling machine to remove required material!!!! No that's not gonna happen.. By the way besides main dealers, where would you source a chain and sprocket set? Can't see them on the bay . Thanks again bud. My chain has snapped jamming the engine up, hence the sudden lock up !

Febi 32266 kit is available online
But doesn't include the crank gear
Need to strip engine and determine if required

Thanks for the dealer parts microfiche list, it appears that the cranks and con rods are the same for the 3 main engine codes, I'm planing to use another crank in my ATL engine, thanks again ,much appreciated, "picture paints a thousand" as they say, bit of a mess eh! Lesson :- don't neglect chain tensioner replacement on your beloved A2!

The engine on my tdi 90 started pressuring the coolant 400 miles after I did the head gasket I suspected internal cracks in the head so I put in a spare 75 hp engine I had and it seems to be going ok. Just changed the injectors and used all the tdi 90 parts. Used the solid flywheel as well. I found it just as easy to change the engine than do the head gasket.
