Is it possible to convert headlamps to rhd?

A few years back a friend of mine was driving to Spain frequently in his A6. He was just about to buy a second set of lights for abroad, when I studied the owners manual only to find that you could rotate the beam deflector inside the headlights by simply rotating a plastic part between the headlights. We had a play and at one point made the car cross-eyed.:D

I had a BMW 5-series about 10 years ago, and under the bonnet there was a small switch for each headlight to convert from RHD to LHD. So easy, pity Audi didn't copy it.

It's odd, my Mk1 TT (2005) has a simple lever (but only with halogen lamps, not HID) to select LHD or RHD. Maybe Audi didn't think A2 buyers would travel far. Mac.

The Mk1 TT has projector headlamps, even with halogen, just like the contemporary C5 A6. The C6 A6 however switched to reflectors for halogen and only projectors for HID. The reflector type would be less costly to manufacture so I guess that's a saving at expense of performance.

Projector headlamps use a shadow screen to form the dipped beam pattern so the adjustment for driving on the other side of the road is just a leaver to move part of the mask.

Andrew
