Is this a secondary fuel filter??

Hi all,

I have a 03 fsi and need some help......Can anyone tell me what this filter is for? it's looking black on the inside and wondered if its a secondary fuel filter, the pipe if im correct does go into the fuel rail. After scouring the site I presume theres only 1 fuel filter which I replaced a few days ago after the car started idling/running a little hesitantly. This helped slightly but still not right. Any advice would be much appreciated.

Hi no its a carbon filter for the return to the tank. As far as i'm aware this is a non service item. To help with the running issue i take it your using high octane petrol-tesco momentum i find the best. If you have been servicing the car have you fitted bosch/audi multi prong plugs? these engines dont perform well on standard single electrode plugs. Failing that good dose of fuel additive-sea foam and work that tank hard.

Thanks for the quick reply a2sumo...I run it on v-power but will try tesco momentum see how it goes...does that give it more horses? Its fitted with bosch multi's all looking ok no wetness, I've ordered some Wynns dip3 as many on here have had good results after using it. I am concerned though as its developed a more significant tapping sound on cold start-up which disappears after warming up which after reading numerous posts could be the egr pipe, i also read you were in the process of developing a blank off kit? hows this going? Considering the price of fitting a new pipe that sounds a much better option.

Ah the ticking sound---yep could be the EGR feed pipe. i have half the kits done its the alloy part for the EGR that is not done yet. it is work in progress but I'm so busy and don't get machine time. I will see if i can get a mate to help out. cheers
