Is this true?

I was recently discussing the theft of catalytic converters from cars with a policeman based in Brighton and he mentioned that in addition to the 'cat' thefts they had seen a rise in the theft of aluminium cars purely for the scrap value. I would add that this was at a stag do, and the said policeman had had a few beers, but is this true? Anyone else come across this? It will be a nightmare if it is.

I’d say he’s talking rubbish. The only way an A2 shell can be weighed in as aluminium is if it’s been completely cleaned of every item that’s not aluminium. When that’s been done it’s only something like 180kg so if no great value weighed in.

They otherwise go as mixed metal and are worth about £80 if you take them to the merchants. I give mine away for free collection.
