Issues!

Hi guys,

Wonder if you can help. I'm crap with cars, but love my little A2 to bits, and it is in need of some TLC.

In the attached pic, can someone tell me what this pipe does, and why it may be leaking?!

Also, how do I fix it?!

Firstly, apologies for the poor picture quality, the light is getting shockingly dark very quickly tonight. The pipes pictured are on the passenger side of the car (Right of the engine if you're in front of the car), and it's the darker, back pipe which has sprung a leak.

As far as I can see, the leak is coming from the rubberised part which forms the corner joint of the pipe, and I have no idea what it's leaking.

Any ideas?

(Forgot to mention, it's a 1.4 TDI 75 - 2002).

Thanks in advance.

If its a metal pipe, then its the aircon pipe, unusual for aircon pipes to spring a leak, are you sure its leaking and not condensation on the pipe.

Yeh, It's a definite leak - there was a small pool under the car. It seems to start leaking when i've been for a reasonable length journey, but only when the engine gets switched off and de-pressurises. As soon as the engine turns over again, the leak stops?

Have just looked back at it, and the metal part of the pipe seems to be covered in like a white film?

Edit: Just to clarify, I'll try and remember to take my camera out with me in the morning, to give a clearer picture..

Sounds like you're worrying un-necessarily - the pool under the car is condensate from the climate system.

I presume the pool is cool and clear? Next time you see it, just dab a finger in it and if it is cool and clear, taste it - just a little. It'll just be water, not coolant or anything else and is completely normal.

Cheers,

Mike

Awesome. I would go and check now, but it's raining.. so it would be pointless.

Just to check, should the pipe go white cold when the engine's been running a while?

Also, I believe I'll be booking in with you at some time early next year if that's OK Mr. Skipton. I want a good service from a decent human.. not a generic mechanic! Based on the reviews on here, it seems you are worth the trip!
