Indeed it is, but Gary is the best engineer I've found.
I've tried a number of local garages that plug in the diagnostics cable and then say how it's too difficult for them to fix, or quote some ridiculous price because they haven't clue.
If your A2 is important to you, you want to give it to someone you trust.

I think that's fair enough, do you often bring it down this way?

I live much closer to Gary than you do, i'm only 21 miles away but it can take me almost an hour to get to him if the M25 is playing up, you wouldn't believe it!
I've been around a few years and agree with you he's an excellent mechanic/engineer the best i've found who isn't a million miles away. It's refreshing to meet a genuine guy who just wants to help and be honest about it all. Very refreshing!

Hopefully not. This was the first time I'd had chance to get JRV down to Gary. I wanted him to give it the once over.Thankfully he didn't find much wrong with it. His mantra of 'don't spend loads of money on it' is completely at odds with almost every other mechanic I've met

Another big thumbs up for Gary @ B & F Auto's (highly recommended guy).
He looks after both my petrol A2s and has spent many hours fixing my Blue Colour Storm (FSI of course).
He reckons I'll get 200k out it now...………...If it wasn't for Gary that FSI would have been long gone and probably broken up for parts I suspect.
Both cars drive really well , considering the 1.4 AUA has now hit 225k and the FSI is on 126k , driving like a dream, seriously nippy car the FSI is when fully sorted.

Yes, Gary knows how to make them work properly, and as you say the FSI is a seriously nippy car when fully sorted.

So this is the same Gary that Birchall used? If so he is only a 5 min drive away and could consider him for fitting a new clutch.

Do you have a number for Gary. Always good to know who can sort an FSI.
