Jerkiness, then loss of power, now no throttle at all

I do hope someone can offer up ideas: We have a 2001 petrol 1.4, c170K miles. All was working fine, then we had the cambelt replaced by usually trustworthy mechanics. The next time we drove it the car began to jerk in low gear. Engine warning light on. During following week it began to intermittently lose power, and sometimes jerk, sometimes doing only 20 mph with foot down - but then power would return and it would run well, as previously. Took back to garage and they tested fuel pumps and took Engine Management System away to be tested. No diagnosis other than perhaps it was wiring problem, and unsolvable. Oddly we've now had a couple of weeks of running reasonably well, but then a couple of occasions last week we had a problem starting (as if battery flat) - but today, finally managed to start it but there is absolutely no throttle response. If anyone has any ideas, or can recommend an A2 specialist in West Kent/East Sussex we'd be really grateful. Maybe there are multiple problems, maybe they are unrelated ...but any thoughts welcome. Thanks.

A scan is essential, without one, we're all just guessing. You'll get lots of suggestions I'm sure, but you need some real data to work on. Mac.

As it’s a 2001 it has an all in one coil pack, this to me sounds like the exactly what I would expect if water had gotten into it, does it do it more if it had been raining or if it’s damp?

Hello,
I live not too far from you.
I can scan your car if required, just let me know. (for free of course)
I have VCDS (full version) with a genuine Ross-tech cable.
All the best
Andy
