Hello guys,

Just bought my little A2 yesterday :) at a very cheap price. It is a 1.6FSI Sport model 2004 with 114,000 miles on the clock and loads of receipts.
It has a few issues that I am looking into fixing. Just did my first 250mile trip yesterday and I must admit I do like it a lot. Love the way it drives and handles.

When I bought it had coolant warning on, then it had EML light on as well. topped it up and after the 250mile trip the coolant light is on this morning again. I could smell coolant "smell" from the engine bay, but cannot trace where it comes from. So I bought a gold radseal today and I will put it in with some fresh concentrated coolant and see if it does the trick :)

I know for sure I have a brake switch fault as the EPC light comes on sometimes... and my brake lights all together are not working always. Also it came up on the VAG Scan I did.
So I will try and clean the brake switch/contacts if it is not fixed then need to replace it.
The I assume I need to clean the "flaps... on the intake manifold" as while I came back from a drive and I was looking over the engine bay ... and the engine was cooling down (been switched off for about 10mins) I heard a loud pop sound and a rod moving. This was the part no 036 129 061 A... moving to close the flaps I guess... scared me by the sound it made! lol I shouldn't think it take 10mins ... to close the flaps after the engine is switched off!

Any further ideas are welcome guys.

Cheers in advance
Vasilis.

By the way misfired only register if the engine is running below 2,200rpm. Over that ... the engine registers no misfires as the EML light stays off. The EML starts flashing and registers codes below 2,200rpm.
I have swapped spark plugs and ignition coils... just to see if these are fault.. but exactly the same misfires occur on the same cylinders. Cylinder No2 regardless what I put in there... does not mifire.. therefore I think it is not a combination of bad coils or plugs.
Am I right putting it down to a sensor?

And after further checks... I found out the rod is broken on the vacuum actuator.
this might explain why the car sounds like a diesel on the first 3-4 seconds on start.. and then it settles.

Cheers :)
I have replaced both front droplinks and fixed the one passenger bush of the front ARB.
Also replaced the brake switch.

I have found out that both sides carpets (foam) was soaking with clean water :(... so took them out, and need to investigate where the water came from. Windscreen is new ... the previous owner replaced it some time in the last year. But I have no info about it. I took it to a windscreen company today for them to check, and they looked at it, saying it seems bonded properly and did not seem loose etc.

I will attempt over the weekend to remove the manifold to repair the rod...
