Keep full service history or service myself ??

The only caveat is that any work on a new car that is not done by a franchised garage must be carried out by a business registered for VAT in order for the warranty to be maintained.

Hi Jeff ... I'm going back a few years (1990's), maybe the consumer laws have changed ... Honda dealer was really smug pointing out that I hadn't been getting the car serviced at their garage ... this was back in the days of a service every six months and for me it felt like a total rip off.
I ended up taking legal advice and all I had to do in the end was to show that my CRX was maintained and looked after to Honda specs ... daft thing was that it had nothing to do with the engine, I was claiming for rust perforation on the wing!!

That is exactly right Jeff, you cannot do the work yourself using approved parts only, to keep the warranty intact it is as you say vat registered, using approved parts and either the electronic or paper service book must be maintained ?

Not an argument ... Just curious ... what has it got to do with HMRC?

Not really to sure, but it was all to do with block exemption in the early 2000s to give customers better choice of where they can get their vehicles repaired.

I guess what I'm saying is that consumers laws were already in place before block exemption but most consumers weren't aware and the dealerships continued to try to make you feel obliged to go back to them ... it happened to me in 1992 and a solicitor stepped in and low and behold it was no longer a problem to get the work done ... I'm not really a rebel but it was an article I had read in Auto Express that made me think ???
