Key Fob Battery Replacement & Re-Sync Issues

Morning all,

This morning my key fob suddenly stopped operating my central locking. I assumed it was the battery so I changed it. I understand I need to re-sync the fob but in order to do that, I need to unlock the door. Turning the key in the lock, it sounds like the doors are unlocking, but the little light on the drivers side door, starts flashing more quickly than before and the door remains locked. As you know, there's only one keyhole so I'm now stumped.
Does anyone have any ideas for how else I can resolve this?
This is my first and only car, so apologies if the terminology I've used isn't correct.

Thanks,
Em

Your turning key to lock door not open door which is opposite turn.

Resync remote:
Lock door with key
Unlock door with key (turn key to right)
Open door put key into ignition
Turn to ignition (where dash lights up not starting car)
Immediately turn back off and remove key
Press unlock button on remote fob.
Done

I could kiss you on both cheeks! Thank you so much

All the best,
Emma
