key Question

A2OC Donor
When I got the car Robinsons audi of norwich put a new batterie in the spare key 3 months or so ago.

Well I thought I would try it yesterday and nothing dead as a dodo. It would not do anything. A bit odd as I would not thought that a new battterie would not go dead after a few months of no use!

I was wondering if it could be a coding prob or out of sync of the car?

Has anyone else come accross this with spare key before?

Thanks in adavance

David

I presume you have 2 keys and the one that's now dead as a dodo has not been used in the last few months?

After around 200 cycles of the other key, the spare key will lose its sync and need to be re-synced.

In practise, what you need to do is simply lock and unlock the car using the blade in the door and then start the car with the duff key.

Run it for a few seconds and then turn off and pull the key out and immediately press the unlock button. You'll hear the door locks cycle and then it's all done.

Cheers,

Mike

Hi Mike.

Thankyou for your propt responce. You were right the spare had lost its sync.

Its all working again now. Thankyou for the instrutions, saved me the hass of going to the dealer.

Another qustion for u about the key. What should the boot button on the middle of the key. Both the spare and the main key do nothing.

I assume that it should just unlock the boot with the rest of car locked?

Thanks again

David

The boot button should just pop the boot, but due to the design of the A2s tailgate, it won't pop up like it does on some other models, notably the saloons.

It's a bit of a redundant design really and only there as the key was common across all Audi models at the time.

Cheers,

Mike

Boot button needs to be held a couple of seconds for it to work (I thought it did nothing for about a month!).You'll notice that once you open the boot and close it again the locks reset and all the doors are locked.

Thanks Guys.

The key is all sorted and I can open the boot now:D

I was haveing a blond moment and did not click that I had to hold the button for a few sec:confused:

I guess it makes sence as you would not want to open it in error..

Cheers

I unlock the doors first, then, pop the boot using the remote if I need too, this way you eliminate the risk of locking the keys in the boot while loading/unloading the car. :)

Very interesting.
do you know if this procedure works on an A3 also?
