Largest sized battery that fits properly in an A2?

Hi all, has anyone done any experiments as to what the largest size battery would fit the A2? Is it the "F19" size?

Afternoon Gary,

For me the Varta F19 is the battery of choice, my whole fleet has them. It’s larger size of course fits perfectly whilst also being not to tall for the spare wheel bracket:

I’ve purchased all mine from Tayna Batteries:

But do keep watching their eBay offerings as they can down to the region if Β£80.

Is that the battery or spare wheel bracket ontop of your battery?
If for a space saver how does it hold it in place. I didn't have one in mine when I bought it.

Evening,

The black metal bracket shown is the factory fit for the collapsible space saver.

I’ll try to find a decent pictures to explain but in a short the bracket is held in place via 4 bolts so it’s totally secure.

The spare wheel is secured to the bracket via a hole in the reinforced carpeted trap-door which hides the battery and emergency tools, the orange curls below is where the wheel fastener screws into:

Through this hole (10mm wood drill bit works if retrofitting the bracket):

The below picture shows the collapsible space saver spare wheel correctly located with the central fastening screwed in:

Hope this helps to answer your question..

Kind regards,

Tom

Worth noting that the space-saver bracket also replaces the standard battery clamp, reusing the same bolts at the bottom end. All A2's until about 2004MY had brass thread inserts in the little holes in the boot-tray near the front edge of the battery, to bolt the top end of the bracket into. I don't know if you could still option the space-saver spare after that point.
