Latest update on the Marketplace rules

Hi,

As most of you are aware (hopefully) we recently made a change to the marketplace rules to remove the mandatory donation rule. This meant that people do not have to have donated before they can post cars or parts for sale in the market place. This makes us a true "voluntary donations only" club. A good move I think you will agree?

We replaced it with a "Ten Post Rule".

After having that in place for a short while we believe that it was adding only an artificial control.
Someone newly registered on the forum only had to post a few meaningless comments on some threads and bypass that rule.

More importantly we pride ourselves on the fact that we operate a "moderate light" approach and that we are not seen to be petty when enforcing rules. We felt that the "Ten Post Rule" was not in the spirit of "Moderate light" and on some occasions, enthusiastic and genuine new members were told that they were breaking the rules because they happened to mention that they had a car for sale but had not yet posted 10 times.

Also we wanted to make sure that members get to hear of cars and parts for sale FIRST and so we can spot bargains and rare parts etc rather than be causing sellers to go elsewhere.

So now any registered member can place adverts for a car, or parts for sale or wanted for no fee, regardless of how many posts they have made.

This should mean more chance for us to snap up a bargain or rare part.
There is a small downside to this though, it could potentially result in some adverts bring posted that are either hugely overpriced or just plain bad adverts. But we can keep a look out for those and handle them if and when they are posted.

But the end result means that we may get to hear of more A2s and parts for sale and less moderation is necessary (such as when someone has posted only 9 times instead of 10 etc.)

As always we will keep an eye on things, but now we will only have to act if anyone is abusing the process.

I see this as a definite benefit to members and hopefully it demonstrates how we want the club to be controlled when it counts, but flexible when it needs to be.

Thanks

I think this is a good decision. It's at least good to try it out and see where it takes the adverts. If it becomes a problem with bad adverts, we can always change the rules later.
