limp mode no power help

hi, after years of trouble free motoring in my little a2 it has now decided to go into limp mode now and then, normally after the car has been running and done a few mile it loses all power.
turning the ignition off and on resets it and it works a little bit then goes again so i presume its in limp mode.
vag com shows code 17964, i have researched and found loads of different solutions, i have checked all the air pipes i can see and seem fine visually, the egr valve looks quite oily, there was a little oil around the pipe that goes into the throttle body and held in with a big clip.
i was reading about the n75 valve but mine doesn't seem to have one on the nearside near the header bottle ?
ive ordered a new fuel filter to start with the cheapest option.
any ideas what it could be or just go through everything i can find on the forums?

Hi Rab,
I agree with you on this, the pipe work perishes below the braiding allowing minute cracks that allow air to pass through under vacuum totally invisible because of the braiding, a hand vacuum pump is the way to test safely .
I bought a 5m length from TPS & replaced the whole lot as it will all be in the same condition
(15-20 years old).
Regards
Keith.
Mine doesn't have any braided hoses on just all rubber , I have examines the ends but maybe could of missed something , may as well try replacing them all

Going round in circles here!

i know, i removed say the pipe from the egr valve and traced it back to the block with the 7 or 8 pipes on it, the block of pipes remove all at once with a push in clip, then you have the ends of the tube what the pipes attached to, thats where i blocked it

You'll have noticed that all seven of those connections are sealed by an O-ring in the box. I would replace them all. NBR (N-Butyl Rubber) will be fine.

well hopefully i may have resolved the issue after trying everything else with no luck i then decided to try a new control unit thing yesterday , when i went to remove it i found this hole slightly blocked which wasn't there last time i removed it so somehow thats got into there, the pipe leads down towards the turbo area, cleaned it out checked the pipe fitted the new control unit and the car just seems so much more responsive, turbo seems to be straight there instead of it building up which i thought was normal, its much more crisp and responsive now, whether thats because of the pipe blocked or the new unit im not sure, all i need now is a few good runs and hope it doesn't go back into limp mode. i will keep this post updated as there is nothing worse than dead posts with no outcome.

Hi, does anyone know what the part is I've got circles in the top left please ? I cleaned the gunk out the blocked hole over 350 mile ago and it never went back into limp mode until yesterday and when I took it back off the same pipe was blocked again and the diagram shows that pipe going to that part but I cannot get my hands down the back of the engine to trace it back
