First time my Smart-only Specialist garage has needed to pull the engine. He normally ‘knows a way’.

In fact I have said EXACTLY the same thing to him!
Replacing the headlight bulb in our older Smart was officially a front-off job (why?!!). Sam could do it, by touch, by pulling out the air intake plenum and reaching in through the gap, up to the shoulder and change the bulb. 2 minutes versus 45.

Hello.
Had this problem recently.
In my case was the catalytic convert all clogged.
The turbo was leaking oil and it clogged almost completely the cat.
It was a bitch to diagnose.
Changed everything, n75, turbo, vacuum pipes, vacuum pump, egr, and the problem was there.
Changed the shop to see if they able to find the reason, and fortunately they did.
When they took the cat to put a new one, chunks of carbon/oil feel imediately to the ground.
Seeing inside the cat, almost 95% of it was clogged. The car was almost undrivable.
