OK, so they're small things, but has anyone else noticed....

a) an external thermometer that clearly over-estimates by some 5 deg C (have calibrated against a number of "proper" thermometers)

b) detachable footwell mats that don't detach without all the detaching "buttons" falling apart

c) windscreen washers that don't wash windscreens

...?

Hi Crawfster

I haven't tried the foot mats yet (we have to take our shoes off!! :D, our wipers wash great on our A2, but I have noticed that the temp gauge seems a bit vague, the other day, I too noticed it was clearly 5 degrees out, I will be mentioning to the dealer, when It's in for a replacement locking mech.

Not so bothered about the temperature gauge - but the windscreen washers could be much, much better. And the mats - well my drivers one has never been attached in the first place - and is now looking like a creased rug. Will my dealer fit this properly?

I agree about the washer jets - they hit the wiper for half the time, then I can't seem to get them to hit the screen in the right place for the rest of the time!

Temp guage seems about right, and I haven't tried removing the mats.

Hi Crawfster,

a) no problem here, given temperatures seem quite right

b) the detachable footwell mats indeed only detach with some of the "buttons" still on/in the mats

c) the windscreen washers are alright.

Hi,

Temp gauge seems ok
I agree that the floor mat poppers are not actually attached to anything underneath.
The washer jet is one of the most pointless things on the car. I just wait for it to rain before I clean my windscreen!

Mats OK, temp display ok, washers not ok!.

Asked the dealer to adjust them up and they now act as rear window washers....

They are easy to adjust yourself-just a lot of back and forth between nozzle and washer stalk to keep testing.

My bit,

a) temp reading : Never actually checked, however always felt the temperature indication was a little high.

b) footwell mats : buttons dont fall apart, however always manage to lift most of the floor carpet up before they detach.

c) Regarding the washers, since owning my A2 I have developed a 6 sense that enables me to spray the washers at exactly the correct time to avoid hitting the wiper blades - well almost!! :D

I haven't checked my temp gauge against a thermometer but it seem to give realisic readings.

Does anyone know where the sensor is located? I only ask because if different people are getting differences, maybe the location has changed on revised models. (ie: near to working components in the engine compartment.)

My carpet is fine, and the washer system. (for now!)

a) It's a bit optimistic but not 5 degrees. Mine is probably one or two degrees off.

b) Been there, had that. I've pulled the thing off once, but luckily it's easy to reattach. On my vectra the thing wore out that fast that after half a year the mats weren't removable anymore.

c) I've adjusted mine :D I've lowered them a tiny little bit. And it's now much better. Again credit to Audi, they're excellently adjustable. On other cars this has to be done with a needle but on the A2 it can be done with bare hands.

Steve if the water jets shoot across the roof the solution is simple. Get on one of those mini roundabouts – squirt the wipers – and keep going around. This way you should get some water on the screen.

I will concentrate on jets as those are one of the weakest parts on the car. It looks like those jets are used all over VAG now. I have seen the same from Seat to VW and Audi of course. However those jets perform excelent on cars that have the windshield positioned at bigger angle.

On A2 it is very difficult to match the speed at which jets cover the screen. So far I have established that you can position the jets to operate only at one certain speed. Since the jets tend not to operate well unless the very same speed is reached, I decided to position those to operate well if not moving or driving very slow.

For aerodynamicaly designed car like A2 is, oldfashioned jets would be more appropriate. I agree with the engineers that modern jets spray the windscreen better, but that makes no sense if jets don't spray as soon as you exceed the optimal speed for more than 20km/h.

Set b****rs for 70 mph and enjoy squirting the tailgating fools at lower speeds.
I know I do (twitch, nervous tick, pulsating blood vessel on forehead)
For a wizzo experience replace washer fluid with thinner or better still Nitric Acid and watch them suffer.
Sorry carried away there I have been watching too much television.

I cant get the front mats back out after i fitted then 18 months ago - I have to hoover round them to remove the gravel etc..

My temp reading is always high, (2002 petrol) often reads high 20's when it is clearly mid teens outside. I have just accepted it is wrong and on some subliminal level assumed it would start working when it got colder and warn me correctly of ice!!!

I have hertz carpets which are rubbish so cannot comment.

My washer jets are also next to useless but I just go through the carwash

Phil,

Are you shure about the carwash? We had a topic about that, and one of the forummembers (Yoyoman = Jeff Huisman) broke the rear window of his car when he used a carwash.
It seems the spoiler on the window is the problem: the brushes of the carwash 'hang' behind it and lift or push down the car. You can see the result of that on http://www.audi-a2.co.uk/ , Owners Gallery/European Owners Gallery/Page 5.

Be aware!
